news14

“Vaping In The News covers media stories on smoking, vaping, snus, heat not burn, e-cigarettes, exposing tobacco control, public health, government, regulations, policies and more worldwide.

“The largest threat to Public Health is an informed consumer.”

Scott Gottlieb: JUUL is Now Your Bitch

Well, I’m not against… wait a minute…

Scott Gottlieb: JUUL is Now Your Bitch

Same Author, my favorite subject: FOIA Request for Nicotine Statements…

Are the Kids Alright?

One of the best breakdowns yet.

Are the Kids Alright?

From the same author – on Twitter:

The “Winston Man”: A Transition from Cigarettes’ Model to Vaping Advocate

“The independent vape industry is serving the market on a silver platter to the tobacco companies,” explained Goerlitz.”

The “Winston Man”: A Transition from Cigarettes’ Model to Vaping Advocate

Should flavours be banned in cigarettes and e-cigarettes?

NO. Nicotine strength should not, either. Period.

Should flavours be banned in cigarettes and e-cigarettes?

More than 50 tickets issued for underage vaping

If Gottlieb was intending swift and STRINGENT ENFORCEMENT – and fines to exceed these – and I mean extreme fines – for selling to minors – for ANY counter sales – vape shops or otherwise, including losing their licences – via the Synar Amendment – changing it to 95% to “qualify for funding’ rather than the EXTREMELY lenient and  ‘acceptable’ 80%, I’d almost start respecting efforts similar to these from Dr. Gottlieb.

More than 50 tickets issued for underage vaping in Park Ridge since penalties took effect last year: police

Shocking Stats On Tobacco Use Indicate Tobacco Control Is Failing!

Antivaping Hysteria Is Unhealthy

A question from Steve Forbes himself:

“What are these witless prohibitionists inhaling?”

Antivaping Hysteria Is Unhealthy

The Last and Only Solace

For the smokers at heart.

The Last and Only Solace

Things I love to see:

Stossel: Let Them Vape

Of the few reporters I admire, John Stossel is one. In an attempt to get some attention, I’d once tweeted to him about A Billion Lives here and asked him to talk with David Goerlitz here.

I was pleasantly surprised to see this balanced piece, especially with Michelle Minton.

Stossel: Let Them Vape

“National Drug Threat Assessment”

For something compared as “addictive as cocaine or heroin”, I am VERY disappointed not to find evidence of nicotine gangs, cartels, trafficking, abuse or threats and specifically “epidemics” listed on the just-released “National Drug Threat Assessment”.

It was pointed out on Twitter that Kratom was not on the list.

Nicotine is absent as well.

Surprise!

National Drug Threat Assessment

Vaping to smoking initiation among US youth and young adults: a reality check

I can’t tell if this got released “too early”, too quick, or dammit, there just isn’t a gateway despite Gottlieb’s determination of creating, nurturing and finally revealing an “epidemic”.  Certainly, there is no gateway.

Rodents!

Call me crazy, I follow a few rodents on Twitter. Outstanding mouseamatician, VladTheVaper,  a VapinSquirrel, a WhiteRabbit and Phil.

Phil linked this from 1998:

Making the world safe for cigarettes

Free Child Labor

With the “Great American Smokeout” behind us, Tobacco Free Indiana took the opportunity to raise hope Indiana legislators will increase the state’s cigarette tax by $2 a pack.

How’d they do it? Well, adults in charge put forty-five children “on their hands and knees” to pick up cigarette butts. That’s 45 hours of free child labor.

“Think of the children™.” Will they also have those children “volunteer” to pick up used condoms and needles to raise awareness of safe sex and drugs?

All in the name of funding.

Free child labor.

Isn’t that nice.

Pisses me off.

“… more importantly, the clean-up was a good way to give back”.

Vaping In The News 2-25-17

Vaping In The News – February 19th-25th, 2017

This weeks collection of Vaping In The News includes Tobacco Control BMJ, Censorship, Steve Forbes, Refreshing Journalism, CASAA / HR1136, Bill Godshall, Cole-Bishop HR1136 Canada and Vlad The Vaper.

I won’t bore you with my usual (insert witty and thought-provoking editorial comment here) views on it all, so let us get straight to Vaping In The News:

Impugning

This week, much to my amusement, Tobacco Control BMJ finds itself in the hot seat when (it) wanted to assert take control. “They” decided to take some to task with this sad example of a scream test in their own echo chamber.

nervous

Blog fog? Using rapid response to advance science and promote debate

Like watching a train wreck, one co-author tweeted taunted this:

Then, as if “rapid” was another code word for “no”…it seems 2 days later, technical difficulties find their way to bad timing.

Still waiting……and duly noted:
“We intend to post all eLetters approved by the Editor within 7-14 days, which must contribute substantially to the topic however it is at our absolute discretion whether we publish and timeframes cannot be guaranteed.”

I was intrigued with an article written by Gary Wood here (with audio)

Government Silences Vape Shop Owners in the US

I wasn’t surprised with the quality of the article, having seen this a few days before:

Why Vaping is Safer in the UK than in the US

Keep that up, Mr. Wood, and thank you.

Steve Forbes, (Yes, him) who has written before about the issues at hand, has another article:

President Trump’s Deregulators Should Tell The FDA’s Anti-Vaping Jihadists to Butt Out

Refreshing

journalism

A Writer at FEE, the Foundation for Economic Education, Brittany Hunter has written

This Could Be the Last Stand for Vaping. It is refreshing to see a journalist taking time to see the whole picture.

I’ve seen Brittany before on Twitter here with
