In this weeks edition of the news: another pattern… Urgings, less harmful, deaths averted… standing up… science…

I’m not sure there’s a word for the childish battle between those who allegedly call themselves “public health” and those who act like it

I’ve asked if their ploys are a “Strategy or Tragedy“…

I’ve even gone as far as devising an assessment tool here….

I’ll continue to enjoy what I will now call an “exhibition match”, what I predicted as “Plausible Deniability” here, “Pavlov’s Dog” here. And of course, the “Keep Smoking” camp is covered here and here.

Please, no wagering.

This is Vaping In The News for the week ending October 7th, 2017

Public Health Officials Urge Use of Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems

I apologize for failing to bring this piece from Lindsey Stroud to your attention last week.

You read that right, now read it.

Public Health Officials Urge Use of Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems

When Enough Is Enough

This phrase needs to be said more. Inept “experts” love to say “need more research”, largely ignoring what’s already out there.

When enough is enough

DOH urged to classify e-cigarettes as ‘less harmful’ option for smokers

In between the screaming, public health “experts”, and tobacco control, should prepare an exit strategy.

Research Tools to Inform FDA Regulation of Snus

“Studies showed low abuse liability for snus and low levels of consumer demand.”
and “is likely to neither result in substantial public health harm nor benefit.”

E-cigarettes work: I’d prescribe them if I could

I personally don’t like the word “prescribe” myself, I don’t want pharmaceutical companies in control, and despise any thoughts of subsidies funding tobacco control. What I do want is Doctors being aware and in control of proper information to relay to their patients.

What Trump’s FDA director gets wrong

“The FDA’s failure, to date, to acknowledge that e-cigarettes not only are safer than combustible cigarettes, but that they are much safer, results in confusion among would be consumers.”

What Trump’s FDA director gets wrong

Data Driven Meta-Analysis

The wild, wild west of data driven meta-analysis just isn’t full enough yet – of meta-analysis about e-cigarette use. I’ve decided to go west.

Because data. Yep. I thought it was way overdue. Because data.

 BrandFire

Adam Padilla of “BrandFire” where the claim on their “about us” page brags of their approach as “creative and “It has the power to disrupt your competition”.

Mr. Padilla put out, on social media sites, a box showing a baby with “my first vape” on it.

It of course, spread around Facebook with ease – and on Twitter….

It turns out my new friend Adam at BrandFire has Pfizer (owned by Johnson & Johnson) listed as a client on their “client” page, but doesn’t show any dazzling “work” for Pfizer on “our work” page.

I looked.

How interesting. This must have been it.

New York City

With the Bloomberg regime off in the distance, the next generation of nannies want to pretend to lower smoking rates in New York City, or profit from those who keep smoking, regardless of the price.

Because of the failure of Bill de Blasio’s city to be fiscally responsible by budgeting what they have,  he’s decided, and includes e-cigarettes… that less people smoking… paying more for public housing… for not smoking… is the plan.

Oh, except New Yorkers being smarter than he is, and of course the black market that doesn’t exist.

Firmly stating “We are sending a loud and clear message that we will not let their greed kill any more New Yorkers without a fight”.

Greed can be misconstrued by “imposing a new 10 percent local tax on tobacco products other than cigarettes” and raising the cost of cigarettes from $10.50 to $13.00 could never be classified as “greed”.

Win/win.

It’s Official: A Pack Of Cigarettes Now Costs $13 In NYC

Tobacco 21

Here’s how their game plan “works” in writing.

Raising The Age Of Purchase For Tobacco Products: Lessons Learned from Tobacco21

Seems the plan isn’t working for compliance, or is it?

In my (highly acclaimed by me) opinion, as the age of purchase was 18, they are having a difficult time keeping their percentage at acceptable levels, and now want to raise it to 21 to recreate the problem.

If they raise the minimum to 21, they create a whole new class and “infringement rate” – and in the process, create more funding to do what “they’ve” already allegedly done.

Job security.

The plan is working to keep “control” relevant as I’ve predicted here and here.

Suddenly, in California, bad laws create bad people and relevance for tobacco control. Now they will “need” more funding to fight “it”.

The rates of “underage sales” failed 50%. They quietly (not to me) created more “problems”…

This is exactly what they planned. More “self-created” problems, more job security to “fight” it.

More proof that “laws” don’t stop “children” (redefined as 18-20 year olds as well) from tobacco use.

August 28, 2017: Tobacco Retailer Compliance Operations Cases

Ruth Malone

“This is the David and Goliath delusion on crystal meth. “

That shady link between Big Tobacco and nicotine gum

This week, Ruth Malone has more to contribute. SURPRISE!

Smoking and E-cig use among teens is down, again – (Don’t tell Stan)

newsies

It’s a long standing whine from inefficient tobacco control “experts”, “those damn kids”.

Wait a minute…

Forgive me, I don’t know where my head was at by typing “those damn kids”.

It’s Think Of The Children ™ .

Future income for tobacco control.

There. Clear conscience. I hope we both feel better.

This graphic is just to make you laugh before we can move on.

I’ll wait.

glantz tweet

All set?

Moving on.

The last chart I saw (from 2015) showing tobacco use among middle and high school students is below, and smoking rates at the bottom was going DOWN.

Substantially.

Seems in the chart on the bottom, the significant decrease in cigarettes use… was – well, ignored. Instead, it added in in the “overall useage”of tobacco.

Huh. Seems in the chart at the TOP, it increased. That made progress “No significant change”.

Well, after National Tobacco Day, that chart is accurate according to the arbitrary law.

I believe this grapic was made during the Surgeon General’s propaganda tour when I snipped this, so I apologize in advance on the source.

I’m sure they were made by someone much more important than I am before I put my remarks and drivel all over theirs.

I think the source is somewhere, if you can bear to go, in here.

lie kids rates.JPG

kids

I’d like to believe the children surveyed in the latest findings are telling the truth to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). I’d also like to believe those organizations were truthful in relaying that information to the public. Not sure. You?

Not sure. You? Haven’t seen Puff-N-Stuff metanalyze it yet… for all I know this is cause for children to pick their noses…I’ll move on.

Either way, smoking is down, e-cigarette use (now called tobacco) is down.

  • Down 20% for “any tobacco product”.
  • Down 20% for “any combustible tobacco product”.
  • Down 26% for any “two (dual use) tobacco products”.
  • Down 29% for “e-cigarette use”.
  • Down 33% for “hookah use”.

Imagine taking away e-cigarettes as a choice.

Would any of the other categories have gone down?

I think not.

Between 2013 and 2015, e-cigarette use rose substantially, and then it dropped in 2016…while “experts” were claiming, screaming, yelling and making a general ass of themselves that they are a gateway to smoking. Yeah. About that…  They’ll be making an ass of themselves and taking credit for the lower rates… any minute now.

kids youth smoking drops again low.jpg

Fool me once… keep babbling…. I’ll make it clearer.

Stop that – you’re starting to look silly.

Youth Tobacco Use in the U.S.

Meanwhile, the Tobacco 21 crowd gears up and wants to restrict tobacco from 18-20 year olds from having that choice. (E-cigarettes). From Adults.

Now look back up at that chart.

Now look without giggling at this graphic tweet from “well respected” our National Tobacco Control Professor, Stanton “Puff-N-Stuff” Glantz, again. It’s like he’s trying to be convincing and all…

You know you want to.

FDA & Fear

Fear is the business they’re in.

“The Food and Drug Administration is now on the wrong side of a new anti-vaping campaign. Instead of helping teens reject using tobacco or e-cigarettes, the new FDA plan would end up discouraging people from quitting cigarette smoking — an outcome no one wants.”

The FDA’s Mitch Zeller & Dr. Scott Gottlieb have been published in the New England Journal of Medicine. It’s not a medical study, it’s a letter.

Gippy & Zippy are claiming nicotine is the center of “addiction” & the contrived FDA funded reduction of nicotine as the possible answer to reduce tobacco use…

(Why are other “chemicals” in tobacco not considered addictive or “tobacco”? *“Nicotine constitutes approximately 0.6–3.0% of the dry weight of tobacco”.)

Then And Now ~ Bullying ~ What Are They Smoking ~ Politics ~ A Billion Lives

Then & Now

The FDA now headed by Scott Gottlieb, M.D. is not only on a “nicotine dangers” kick, they’re funding and promoting it.

Nicotine, as I’ve previously concluded for you, is not addictive without tobacco & MAOI’s.

Now, there’s another NIH article for you to consider on the association of addiction. They know better, they just won’t admit it.

“nicotine concentration was associated, albeit weakly, with dependence among e-cigarette users.”

Then and now: Consumption and dependence in e-cigarette users who formerly smoked cigarettes.

These ideas were presented as scientific facts, not subject to debate. In fact, if we were to challenge the ideas, the implication was that we – ourselves – might be accused of working for Big Tobacco or receiving secret payoffs.

The most prominent and dogmatic idea presented to us was that “The debate is over.” There is no room for questioning of the link between secondhand smoke and chronic disease. Anyone who challenges that link or suggests that it is being exaggerated must therefore be a front for the tobacco industry. No reasonable person – acting of their own accord – would challenge this undebatable science.”

Tobacco Harm Reduction

responsibility2

I didn’t quit smoking. I didn’t stop smoking. I switched to a less harmful alternative. I chose to try a “cig-a-like” and I didn’t want a cigarette within 48 hours, and my wife chose to do the same thing.

My journey was no different than most others who accidentally found an alternative to smoking that actually worked with no withdrawal and no noticeable side effects.

research

After more than four years, I’ve found myself in a cesspool of adults –  specifically professionals with titles and “I love me” walls – who pretend to have no common sense.

I take that back, there are side effects to not smoking with my chosen path.

Reading. LOTS of reading.

Research. Finding answers myself.

Asking questions and “networking”. I have found that if I don’t know or understand, someone will, without fail, answer my question both truthfully and in a way I will understand.

Blogging. To get what I do learn & understand out to others who hopefully will find it – and understand it.

Twitter. Immense knowledge and reference from worldwide advocates.

Questioning.

I am constantly questioning everything I thought I knew I was told about smoking.

Tobacco Harm Reduction.

Health and government organizations don’t subscribe to tobacco harm reduction. With them, you will find cessation.

According to Merriam-Webster, “cessation” is to stop.

  1. :  a temporary or final ceasing (as of action) :  stop mutually agreed to a cessation of fighting

blame

What “organizations” and government are doing is promoting a highly profitable and repeatable business.

The vulnerability of someone with great expectations isn’t considered, it is mocked.

They wrongfully blame the consumer. They blatantly blame “nicotine“.

What they “give away” are products made by pharmaceutical companies and an air of authority, combined with an illusion of an answer to help someone stop smoking.

The reality of these methods and the failure rates is dismal and never discussed.

Entertain yourself.

Call a quitline and ask them about the success rates with the patch or gum.

quit attempts the vaper

Success?

Well, I’ll let the display of an “expert” organization speak for themselves below:

quitting

What you do not see promoted is tobacco harm reduction.

For Life.

For the record, I am not against the patch, gum, lozenge, hypnosis, a self-help book, accupuncture, heat not burn, snus, smokeless tobacco, e-cigarettes, and other alternatives.

Only if used with extreme caution and understanding the well documented side effects, medication is also avaible to help someone choose to stop smoking.

I am, however against giving improper or bias information to those who don’t know any better and rely on “trusted” organizations, public health & government officials.

I will do this until I can’t type, call, scream, tweet or blog any longer.

Think of the possibilities.

I am a consumer. I have no ulterior motive.

I take that back, I have ulterior motive. The choice of smoker, the non-smoker and education of the consumer.

I have proudly joined the Board of Directors of THR4Life (Tobacco Harm Reduction 4 Life) along with 5 others:

Vaping In The News

July 9th – 15th, 2017

I am a Vaper ~ ♫ I’m just a shill… ♫ ~ That word ~ Brian Fojtic ~ Coffee ~ Colin Mendelsohn ~ Deeming Regulations ~ THR4Life

I am a Vaper

“I am a vaper. That’s not a confession, by the way; it’s a statement I’m proud to make. I used to smoke and now I don’t. For many that’s a difficult journey, but it doesn’t have to be.”

I am a Vaper, and I am one of #ABillionLives

It’s a two-fer from Sparkles!

♫ I’m just a shill… ♫

I wonder…

When will W.H.O. stop tobacco “CONtrol” from interfering with success of e-cigarettes instead of denying their proven potential and continuing their agenda of the fiscal con.

Rhetorical.

I’m calling on a resolution to prevent all tobacco control activites.

Here’s where WHO FCTC pretends to bite the hand that feeds them:

Are you familiar with INNCO?

That word….

Did you “quit”? Did you “stop”? Did you “switch”?

David Dorn speaks about “That word….”

That word….

 Brian Fojtic

“Miller expressed concerns about misleading messages coming from tobacco control groups and government agencies”

Like nicotine, coffee is life.

Scary words – nicotine and caffeine….

I do love my coffee –

Drinking coffee could lead to a longer life

Associate Professor Colin Mendelsohn:

Australia is still facing one of the most idiotic fights to keep people smoking in the world. Quit or die is an ineffective and worn out calling card –  to keep smokers smoking.

Do you know about NNA?

Deeming Regulations

If you had doubts about the proposed new vaping rules in the House Agriculture Appropriations Bill — now working its way through the House committee process — take some comfort knowing that vaping’s biggest enemy doesn’t like it one bit. Maybe that’s a good sign.

Here’s Jim McDonald with that:

Possible change to deeming regulations scares our enemies

That’ll shut ’em up.

Matt Myers

I do recommend following and reading everything & anything Jim McDonald writes.

Matt Myers explains the “flexible” deeming regs

Speaking of Jim McDonald:

Learning from our failures in smoking cessation research

Be more forceful with things that don’t work – sounds like a plan.

“Widespread access to a range of treatments (perhaps more appropriately termed “cessation aids”), offered at little to no cost and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 12 months a year ought to be ubiquitous. We should, as Baker notes, be more forceful in bringing the treatment to the smoker.”

NO GATEWAY

How many times do I gotta tell ya……. there IS no GATEWAY.

Understanding Nicotine Strengths and Percentages

Nicotine strengths are important.

This is an excellent reference from Lee

Tobacco company outsmarts tobacco control experts… again.

The tobacco control/public health sector is much more interested in taxing tobacco for its own financial gain via funding and what they call an “end-game”. The “end-game” is simply their business plan – with no thought other than their survival – not the public – to continue what seems to be their “fight” against tobacco, and to fund themselves.

On the other hand, tobacco companies are well ahead of TC and public health posturing  – they are rightfully setting themselves up for the future with innovation & expectations – brought by consumer & market demand.

Combustible tobacco will never go away, but may lose its appeal. While tobacco control experts want to control tobacco for their own purpose, tobacco companies are finding a less harmful alternative to the traditional combustible products – like ecigs & heat not burn.

“Peter Nixon, the UK chief executive of the international tobacco giant said, “We are absolutely serious – one day, we want to stop selling cigarettes.” The company has committed to bringing about a smoke-free world that it has decided to pay brand ambassadors, termed “freelancers”, to persuade people to quit smoking.”

Tobacco giant Philip Morris is paying people to help quit smoking

My memory fades at times, I do not know where or when I first came across Mr. Fojtik, but I am glad I have. He coined the phrase “Phino” some time ago.
