Heat Not Burn

It isn’t my business to coerce someone NOT to try something that might just work. As a consumer, I’d like to know my options. As a human, I show bias. I try not to.  I am for choice. If someone has decided to switch from smoking, “doesn’t quite like” e-cigarettes, (or patches, gums, toothpicks) and can find another alternative, then they should be able to both try, and choose.

“I’m for whatever works for the informed consumer. Patch, gum, Heat Not Burn, vaping, acupuncture, books, hypnosis, counseling, etc…. Do I “like” them all? No. It’s not about or me or are what “I” like. What may work as choice for a consumer is first.”

Do I like the idea it is made by a tobacco company? Not really. Do I think it will be beneficial to smokers trying to switch much more efficiently than pharmaceuticals? Yes. Does that make me happy? Why yes, bias-ly I answer, thanks for asking. Is judgment on the product based on who makes it? Yes. Stop that.

The “Heat Not Burn” sector of ~not smoking~ IS another option, and I’ve heard good things about it.

Just insert the number of cigarettes before the switch, choose between MTL and DL and the calculator comes up with an average figure for the daily nicotine requirement (mg/day).

The calculator lets you choose your favorite nicotine strength and indicates the corresponding liquid volume (ml).

Campaign For Tobacco-Free Kids Market E-cigarettes and Tobacco to Children.

TOBACCO FREE KIDS

“Without question, no one markets cigarettes or e-cigarettes more to children than Tobacco-Free Kids. No one.”    (Me.)

Since the 1970’s, there has been a ban on advertising of tobacco. In 1970, President Nixon signed a law called the Public Health Cigarette Smoking Act  – banning cigarette ads on T.V. and radio – beginning January 2nd of 1971. (Link).

Over the past four or so years, I’ve watched what looks like breaking the law to me, but – some are above the law.

The “Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids” was set up by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation in 1995, (the largest shareholder in Johnson & Johnson – who make “cessation” products). They don’t accept money from tobacco, but as long as smoking continues, (like “lower nicotine” cigarettes) there is an abundance of children coming on to the smoking market for their “product(s)”.

WHY would ANY anti-tobacco group, much less the self-proclaimed CAMPAIGN for TobaccoFREE Kids” WANT to endorse and literally encourage and help introduce more cigarettes of any kind INTO the market?

First:

CTFK – as a “non-profit” is – evidently – above the law. They can lie. Manipulate. Misdirect. They can say “anything” they want. Why do they have such influence over tobacco legislation?

They not only are a political front group, they are directly (Matt Myers) involved in every aspect of tobacco including laws and changes in the law to suit their needs since around 1995.

According to Wikipedia:

“Matt Myers engaged in negotiations with Philip Morris circa 1997 to determine terms of a Master Settlement Agreement, and again negotiated with PM in 2004 to create legislation to allow the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to regulate tobacco.”

It (the Master Settlement Agreement) looked good on paper. Before the ink was dry, The Master Settlement agreement had tobacco companies signing up to “pay” the government. Well, smokers (like you & I) paid, tobacco companies collected, and the government took the money.

How’s that go so far? They spent the money before they had it in their hands. BILLIONS of dollars.

Here’s a link. Here’s another.

While the public is under the impression of an “upstanding” non-profit organization trying to help “children”, they are as powerful a political force in changing, adjusting and manipulation of public opinion and legislation and the outcome(s) as the politicians who DO their bidding. They can say and do, evidently, anything they like.

No repercussions. Immune from public scrutiny – (other than my and others’ tweets) they literally can say – and tweet – anything they like.

Let’s chat about job security.

Tobacco-Free Kids  “actively prevented the FDA from raising the age of cigarette sales nationally to anything above 18”.    Think about that.

That’s here:

WHY can children still purchase cigarettes?

Nobody cares. Wait, not enough people care.

Second:

To the self-created and “orchestrated” Juul “epidemic”.

clearly part of an orchestrated campaign

~Carl V. Phillips

In my opinion

There is more to this “Juul” story than we can see. The company was “asked” for documents. They are for raising the age of purchase of their product and tobacco to 21. It makes me curious why a company would do that willingly, voluntarily, without a court order. Is this smoke and mirrors?

Friendly fire for something I don’t see – yet? Are they for sale? Is this a setup to become a tobacco company purchase? Is their “closed system” product one that can go “over the counter” as FDA director Gottlieb suggested last week, and is at an advantage to make people like CTFK happy?

Silly questions in my head.

Inspired again by a “Cranky Old Broad”, (SKIP!) to go on an excursion of sorts, I went back just over a month  – due to the thought of CTFK being “off” on the weekends just to see how many tweets there actually were about the “Juul” product, and how they were portrayed to the public by CTFK…and “the children™” they allegedly are helping.

Now, if you’re under the impression this organization is geared towards kids, I’ll let you make your judgement on the impressions you see below. Like manipulation of the public perception every time they use any variation of “Think of the children™”.

I’ll let you see just how reverse psychology works.

Remember, “e-cigs” are a tobacco product since “National Tobacco Day” and no one is allowed to advertise a tobacco product. I know, they’re not “advertising”, they’re “educating”…

Now, the tweets… of course, and with my comments….

Tweeted

Between March 28th and May 5th, The Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids have tweeted no less than –26– times themselves about Juul. They’ve retweeted no less than –16– times.

Grand total, at least –42– times. Here are their “unorchestrated” tweets:

Before you scroll….I’ll bet you a dollar you can’t find a “gateway to smoking” in these tweets……. I WONDER what happened to that…..

Well, I’ve kept you long enough.

“Anybody who tells you Juul is a panic or an epidemic in America is deceiving you”~ Iowa Attorney General ~ Tom Miller 👇

1. Fun stuff to orchestrate unorchestrated things. “Think of the children™”.

2. Highlighting the unorchestrated craze as low key as possible on Good Morning America. “Think of the children™”. There’s force and drawing.

3. Love the adjectives… and action verbs… baby pacifier…. how they can make me quiver.

4. Adult teachers are evidently – according to Newsweek, unable to handle disruption in class.

5. Those sneaky little rat teenagers are making grown adults FRET!

6. Strong-arming a company into voluntary submission to do nothing about what it isn’t already not doing sounds very unsuspicious and … bullshitty.

7. These things must REALLY be gutting tobacco profits.

8. Take your time, boys… all part of the bigger show.

9. PARENTS! Are you paying attention? Imagine if they were smoking instead? “Think of the children™”.

10. (No “orchestrated” panic going on here – or media name dropping)

11. Oh, adding Dick into the purge urge.

12. Places, everyone. This is urging because it is immediately urgent.

13. Here’s where they clarify make a feeble attempt at posturing – because, after all, there is no “orchestrated” panic.

14. Now, who doesn’t like a collection of decades of deceit on display? I wonder if the exhibit shows tobacco control propaganda…..

15. Nothing orchestrated about “skyrocketing”…”Think of the children™”.

16. No panic or target orchestration intended by adding in “the Marlboro

17. “Threaten”… “addict”… “must act”…  nope, no propagantist material within yet…”Think of the children™”….and dammit, the media is rehearsed right.

18. Warning! “Think of the children™”.

19. “craze” “must act“…

20. “hooking”… by the way, if you’re new here, nicotine is not addictive.

21. It is extremely important to have the head of the organization propagandizing propaganda properly

22. Parents and school administrators have a tough time asserting their authority... evidently. If you own a Juul, you can now accessorize along with your outfit, evidently.

23. Here it’s rampantly popular…

24. It’s a worry among doctors and health groups… a propagandist craze…

25. If you know, you should be talking to your child, but read this because – well, you should know this first. (Note the “inside middle schools” part, where teachers and administrators- those in charge – just can’t control middle school students, evidently….)

26. Bored yet? I’m trying to keep your attention…

Oh slang, You dirty unforgiving term for teen decadence.  OOH! Skyrocking!

Retweeted:

These were retweeted by the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids.

Same rhetoric, same goal.

27. Crack down… steps… baby steps… I’m seeing a trend for the next one…   is there ever not more to be done?

28. Laurie likes action words: “cracks down”.

Very propaganda-like – good for her. Although I didn’t read her story, I’m sure it is beyond intriguing.

29. No less than 800 likes… was there just a phone call and “Hey, Bob… could you send us some documents?” Was there a court order? Who cooperates with the government willingly? Hmmm.

30. I don’t want to likely misinform anyone, but saying “especially dangerous” gives one a direct connotation to smoking being safer. Why would you want to do that?

What would be the initiative to telling the opposite of the truth? <– See what I did there?

31. I wonder what caused this “surge” in popularity? Anyone?

32 & 33. Technically the same tweet (the lower one), but gives the upper one extra umph in Twitterville. Dick has some balls, mentioning the gateway without mentioning the gateway. I’m very disappointed in the vagueness of his tweet.

Note he’s so mad he’s sent two letters.

34. The illusion of a gateway, but they’re starting to know better.

35. Tweeted about and retweeted…

36. Not mentioning “Juul” specifically, but in the graphic…

37. When you are among friends, you retweet.

38. Fashion on its own from earlier… too important not to retweet.

39. I didn’t realize there were so many adult strugglers.

I strongly suggest counseling for these professional academics to get ahold of themselves so they can get control of children.

40 & 41. “Opinion”. (Two-fer again).

42. Suing. Classic silliness. What are they “suing” for? I’ll give you – for this tweet – the “gateway” effect….. within the context of the tweet.

Cigarettes.

Earlier we covered the “e-cigarettes are tobacco”. Now we will briefly move on to tweets “about” cigarettes… now remember, class – advertising of tobacco products is still illegal.

Same rules – around the same time frame, but “they” don’t advertise. “They” (tobacco control, government and public health groups) only tweet about news about tobacco…

Well, guess what is in the photos…

I’ve called them out on it… plenty of times….

1. An awesome graphic of “not advertising” on social media.

2. Yep.

3. (Retweeted)

4. Love the “not advertising” on this one.

5. Images of smoking… remember this is an anti-tobacco CONtrol group.

6. Wonderful Marlboro image. (Their partners.) No reverse psychology here….

7. More common is the press deciding multiple brands should be shown.

8. (Retweeted) – A wonderful closeup of Newports.

Those are just a few… in the past month or so… and is how a political front groups acts as if they are “educating” children while operating as a caring non-profit “for the children™”.

I hope you’ve read this far:

I consider it my job to find things, good and bad, to keep readers who’ve been with me all this time (thank you) and to new readers consumers stumbling across my blog… informed.

I tell you about my findings – sometimes with arrogant commentary before-hand – and sometimes not. You’re welcome!

Note the date of the tweet below – by “The James”  – is from 2016. They had a tweet where there were “two” studies. Didn’t find that right away…

I sent multiple tweets about this “study” (if I remember correctly, there were two) and still haven’t recieved a response to date. Must not be important.

However, I FOUND ran across something Ohio University did…. about “vape fluids”. Not that I’m finding it on an official release by the government or any “health” groups…

This is Why Tobacco Control Should not be Trusted

responsibility6trust

This is Why Tobacco Control Should not be Trusted

This guest blog is courtesy of two people I trust:

Kevin M. Price and David Goerlitz.

The current decline in smoking has been well-documented and has occurred because of a consumer based technology coming into the marketplace, not by the efforts of Tobacco Control (TC) groups. TC is primarily funded by Tobacco Taxes. It is a textbook conflict of interest because if they succeed at what they are trying to do, they will de-fund themselves. Let me make this a bit clearer for those of you reading this; Tobacco Control does NOT have the goal of eliminating smoking, period! TC is about control and power. Here are some of their proposed ‘fixes’ and what they claim their goal is along with what their true objectives are:

Tobacco 21- TC claims that raising the age to purchase tobacco products will reduce the numbers of new smokers by 25%. In actuality, it has done little to help reduce smoking or curb youth access since it does not make it illegal to possess tobacco products if you are under 21 and it has been largely rejected by a majority of cities and towns already. Raising the age to buy without the means to enforce it is a feigned attempt to appear to be doing a public service. The intended goal of this program is to inflate the numbers of ‘youth smokers’ by including the now ‘underage’ 18-20 year olds in their reports and surveys. They will further secure their funding by showing a jump in tobacco use overnight. Clever but not completely honest to say the least.

Flavor Bans- TC will claim that “Flavors are marketed to Children” and should be banned from all tobacco products. Tobacco Harm Reduction (THR) has played a major role in helping people to stop smoking. It is estimated that nearly 13 million Adults in the USA have used smokeless tobacco (Vaping and Snus) with significantly higher success rates (67%) of never returning to combustible tobacco products again, using flavored products. Why would TC want to remove products that are magnitudes safer than smoking? Why would TC want to restrict access to something that millions of adults have found success quitting smoking with? If someone is trying to quit smoking, should they HAVE to use tobacco flavors to do so? The answer, they are well aware that doing so will cause many to return to smoking, completing the cycle of taxation and funding for their continued existence. It is not about public health, it is about their funding.

High Taxation- Tobacco has always been the target for taxes and revenue generators for states. The sin and guilt applied to smokers has been a psychological war going on for decades. ‘You smoke and should be ashamed of it, pay your taxes’. However, TC has completely ignored any and all THR products citing that ‘They are not FDA approved’ as their reasoning. Again, I ask you, Why not include THR products with a very high success rate and far less harm? It is an obvious ruse and it comes back to their funding. Call it ‘Tobacco’, tax it, and keep the funding coming in, rinse and repeat. Are you seeing the trend here? I hope so. On to the next…

Tobacco Control uses slight of words- If you listen to these TC groups speak, they will interchange the words ‘tobacco’ and ‘nicotine’ as if they are one and the same, they are not. Using this play on words they will say things like “Smoking kills 480k+ Americans each year. ____________ (add in any of their proposals above here) will save people from their deadly addictions to nicotine and create a healthier state/city in ____________ (enter city or state here).” They want to create the narrative so that people associate tobacco and nicotine as one and the same by continually using them together. Keep in mind that there are no studies that can prove nicotine is deadly or that it is ‘highly addictive’ as they claim. Not ONE study! Prove me wrong, I’ll wait. They do this so that they can include anything with nicotine in it to be taxed just like tobacco…to protect their funding.

Finally, I would like to point out that these TC groups are NOT required to communicate truthfully OR factually to the public. They are not bound by any state or federal laws to tell the truth. Having given you my professional opinion, I stand by the title of this letter in saying “This is WHY Tobacco Control should not be trusted”.

Organized Crime Heads Applaud FDA’s Decision To Reduce Nicotine

money-laundering

Is combustion reduced?

Will health benefits increase?

Are other ingredients be reduced?

Will this cause more casual smokers?

Can you define “minimally” or “non-addictive”?

Is this nothing more than prescribing smoking?

What is being added to tobacco to reduce nicotine?

When Dr. Gottleib, head of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) made the announcement to reduce nicotine and keep tobacco burning, health criminal organizations immediately applauded the plan to continue tobacco use.

Speculation over future profits is keeping some barely contained in their excitement.

Since the announcement to lower nicotine in cigarettes, health organized crime heads have rallied in support in the plan, some calling it a “game changer” between bites of cannolis.

The goal? Leave the nicotine, keep the tobacco.

That’s the important, and profitable part.

Loan sharks are circling the wagons, they want their money back.

The Plan

For this to work, there must be a strong and unbreakable criminal network and respect for the groundwork criminal element already  established between the drug companies and public health, even if was before you were born, and specifically if you don’t understand it.

Everyone must agree that nicotine is addictive and dangerous. Decades of a foundational and profitable lie is at stake for everyone, even when nicotine isn’t addictive without tobacco. No one wants to be embarassed.

People could get hurt.

Dr. Gottlieb

He himself is a fan of tobacco. Big fan. Smoking promotion is big business when it’s technically illegal for tobacco companies to advertise themselves. The government does it for them.

I can’t imagine he read this opinion piece he linked, it was written by a history professor with writing skill and knowledge of a cat in heat, or at least worse than mine. Among other things, it stated:

“Smokers would be able to start or quit at will, without suffering the robbery of choice that defines addiction.”.

Keeping tobacco and trying to redefine it as nicotine, is a game.

He and fellow criminal, Mitch “Two-Butts” Zeller wrote a long and boring letter and *surprise*, it got published as gospel in the New England Journal of Medicine.

It does sound convincing.

“…don’t ever take sides with anyone against the family again. Ever.”

– Michael Corleone, The Godfather

While I don’t agree that “people need to stop smoking” as stated below by the American Council on Science and Health, smoking is a personal adult choice, I am not surprised this is the only group making a bit of sense.

Despite my reservation, ACSH is standing alone as it speaks out against the criminal acts unfolding with what is known as common sense. They even went as far as stating nicotine is “harmless”. Finally, truth.

ACSH is the only one I’ve found so far.

Imagine that…

So far I haven’t seen the Body Parts Orgs™ (© David Goerlitz) say anything.

I’m waiting on the Heart, Lung and Cancer criminals to make their decision as to which way they’ll roll.

It isn’t like it hasn’t been tried before in 1989:

The ultra-low-nicotine cigarette is the latest entry in an increasingly feverish race among tobacco manufacturers to stop a decline of 2 percent a year in cigarette consumption in the United States.

Tobacco industry executives say the process of removing nicotine that Philip Morris used to create the Merit Free is similar to the decaffeination process used on coffee beans.

”It’s a pretty common, patented process that we’re all aware of,” said Douglas Keeney, chairman of C. A. Blockers.

Very Low Nicotine Cigarettes

In 2008?

Bold is my emphasis:

In summary, a toxicological analysis does not indicate that low-nicotine and nicotine-free Quest® cigarettes have less adverse toxicological effects in the laboratory than conventional cigarettes. This should draw the attention of the consumers and policy makers.

What is wrong with this approach?

Well, for starters – they’re promoting what they’re pretending to get everyone away from. So they can make more money.

I did a bit of digging…..

Um… they’re suggesting PRESCRIBING smoking.

X-22 is the first and only smoking cessation product in the form of a combustible cigarette.

X-22 is a six-week prescription treatment which utilizes Very Low Nicotine (VLN) cigarettes (95% less nicotine than conventional cigarettes) to satisfy a smoker’s craving for cigarettes while separating the act of smoking from the rapid delivery of nicotine.

This is its American brand sold in more than 600 stores. It is a high nicotine cigarette. It might seem counterintuitive, especially given the health benefits claimed by its very low nicotine cigarettes, but high nicotine cigarettes could have significant health benefits as well.

X-22 has certain advantages:

  • It’s a cigarette, people seem to prefer that

  • It has no side effects, apart from the harmful effects of cigarette smoke

  • It has been proved effective in six clinical trials

CONCLUSIONS

1. Smokers regulate their intake of nicotine to obtain the amount of nicotine that they need to sustain their addiction.

2. Spontaneous brand-switching studies suggest that there is no reduction in smoke intake per cigarette, and that any reductions that are seen in brand switchers depend upon whether or not those individuals also reduce their cigarette consumption.

3. Studies of smokers smoking self-selected brands showed a weak relationship between machine-measured nicotine yield and a smoker’s nicotine, CO, or thiocyanate exposure.

4. Considering the overall exposure data for individuals selecting their own brands, there is little reason to expect that smokers of low-yield cigarettes will have a lower risk of disease than those who smoke higher yield cigarettes.

For immediate release: Dear Matt Myers, President of Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids

tobaccofreebullies

Ohio, 25th September 2016

Dear Matt Myers, President of Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids:

As I am sure you are aware, public health and tobacco control organizations must posture themselves with efforts to play a fictitious lead role in tackling the tobacco pandemic, which causes the death of 480,000 US citizens every year. This is without factoring all the suffering, disability and personal tragedy linked to tobacco use along with millions of dollars in funding, none of which can ever be quantified.

I, as a citizen of the United States, would like to express my strong concern for your valiant efforts to keep Americans smoking, and your lack of participation or interest for invaluable e-cigarette research that has taken place in England and many other countries.

I also could not help but notice you are heavily and blatantly sponsored directly by or in partnerships with medical associations, pharmaceuticals and medical industry along with front groups such as your founder, the Robert Woods Johnson Foundation, and of course the American Heart, Lung and Cancer Associations.

All of these groups, as you are also aware, irresponsibly supported regulation of vaping products as tobacco. Amazingly, not one national health or tobacco control organization has had the integrity to stand up for public health.

As you might not have noted,  a highly responsible and growing group of professionals from the medical profession and tobacco control, who are not afraid to speak to each other, or speak for the welfare of smokers, are with a group called M.O.V.E. (1).

On its own, Public Health England (2), and the highly respected Royal College of Physicians (3), have been supporting vaping products for tobacco harm reduction for quite some time, stating at least 95% less harm, staking their professional reputations and titles on these facts.

  1. M.O.V.E.
  2. A_report_commissioned_by_Public_Health_England.
  3. Expert independent review concludes that e-cigarettes have potential to help smokers quit.

As you are involved with an organization having unstable credibility at best, you should be placing smokers’ health and well-being as the highest priority. Your lobbying and backroom deals for tobacco companies best interests involving the Master Settlement Agreement and the Family Smoking and Tobacco Control Act shows a conflict of interest dripping with corrupt activities.

The involvement directly related to the pharmaceutical industry has been misleading and deceiving the general public for many decades and “could be” not only detrimental to your reputation but also the notoriety of your affiliated associations and institutions.

When informed about the staggering evidence of tobacco harm reduction (4), and ease in which smokers are switching to a much less harmful alternative (5), to combustible tobacco, some organizations like yourself have immediately ignored any and all correspondence towards one answer, less harm.

Now that these connections are clearly established and brought to your attention, I call on you to to disengage from denying information to smokers in the United States, deceiving them with misinformation (6), propaganda like “Think of the children“, and being the self-serving catalyst responsible for the 480,000 deaths per year from smoking from this moment on.

4. Top tobacco control experts to FDA: Studies of e-cigs suggest more benefit than harm

5. We Don’t Need ‘Decades of Research’ to Know Vaping Is Safer Than Smoking

6. Withholding differential risk information on legal consumer nicotine/tobacco products: The public health ethics of health information quarantines

You, Matt Myers, are at the forefront and part of the cause of the tobacco epidemic that is crippling our communities and targeting the most vulnerable smokers from switching. You need to embrace your professional and well paid position of alleged authority and vow to no longer be involved with an industry which has fundamentally irreconcilable interests from public health and welfare.

I know I will slow this pandemic of tobacco to a crawl without your ulterior motives, effectively allowing adult smokers to make the choice to switch to a less harmful alternative with proper and educated information.

I hope that your participation in the highly profitable pharmaceutical and tobacco control “end-game” has just been an oversight, a simple misunderstanding all these years. I’ll expect you to rectify and remedy this immediately.

If not, it is imperative for you to cease and desist any and all tobacco control activities until you get your head out of your ass.

Without respect or regret,
Kevin Crowley

Reducing smoking, a challenging “Campaign” for Tobacco Free Kids

Added 5/13/18:
Below is a quote from SenatorJudd Gregg, chairman and ranking member of the Senate Budget Committee at the time, linked below it.
[S]ignificant, I think, is the fact that … we are claiming that we are actually harming the tobacco companies. This argument is being
made in the market-place of ideas around here that this tobacco
bill is somehow, in some way, an attack on big tobacco, when with
the immunity language in it, it is just the opposite-it is a protective blanket.
It is an iron curtain of protection for big tobacco…..
[W]e made a deal with the devil – or somebody made a deal with
the devil…. I just wanted to highlight that at this point because I
think the debate has gotten a little topsy-turvy.
It is a little topsy-turvy when a bill is giving, for the first time in
the history of our Nation, and in the jurisprudence history of our
Nation, product liability protection of immense value to an industry that has produced a product that is inherently deadly and is addictive and is targeted on kids – the first time we are going to do that, and that bill is, for some reason, perceived as being anti- tobacco.
It is not anti-tobacco. It is actually very pro-tobacco.
