A Fading Old Memory Between My Wife And Me

1991

In a perfect world, this blog would never have been sitting in a draft folder waiting for the results of a diagnosis – and finding the right time to talk about it. In an imperfect world, this blog takes a frustrating journey on memory loss, my wife, and me.

I can only assume what Janice and I experienced has happened in a similar fashion to more than 6 million people. In the beginning, small incidents we brushed off were, hate the word, anecdotal.

Memory loss is typical, we’re told, as we age. Things like forgetting why she went into the room. “I must be getting old” style excuses.

Those were types of comments from her (and snarky comments from me, of course) on occasion. Laugh as we will, I reminded her – my dad called it “old-timers” disease… Not outright denial, but – Nah, couldn’t be.

1992

For background

Early in 2014, Janice worked in retail. She’d been “short” on her drawer, considerably over the $5.00 limit. Her boss -gave- her a week off while they “investigated” the shortage. While she knew there was no money “stolen”, the fact remained her till was not accurate. I wasn’t overly concerned but would find myself ultra-aware about my wife’s issues…

1992

Hey, wait a minute…

My son went with her to the grocery store she’d been going to for 15+ years. Not only did she pass the grocery store, she forgot where she was going. My son, intrigued by his mother’s forgetfulness, took great pride in telling the story. Again, one incident didn’t correlate with another, and it didn’t really – well, she’s not old enough to… Wait, brain issues??? Well, she’s too young to have a cognitive loss. Let’s press on.

In another instance, Janice took Dustin somewhere. It was mentioned she was had been “drifting” into the other lane – so much he grabbed the steering wheel to keep her in her own lane. She’d done it before. Now that’s not funny.

Suddenly, “little things” started adding up. Occasional frustration while using the microwave. She mentioned she couldn’t focus on traffic lights, looking at the one ahead rather than the one she was approaching. She’d find her chair behind her before she’d sit down…Seemingly ‘anecdotal’ things I (we) had brushed off – now deserved my dedicated attention.

Denial isn’t an objective option. Something’s going on. I (we) decided to stop her from driving. (I’ll get back to that.) We didn’t know – what we were looking for. Imaginations can and did run pretty wild…Parkinson’s? Brain tumor? Alzheimer’s?

So many questions

Fast-forwarding beyond the primary physician, a recurring question asked was “Has anything traumatic happened in [your] her life” or any “big changes”… Well, we’re pretty boring but had struggled in ways like anyone else over the years, nothing either of us considered traumatic in the sense they were looking for.

The best we could come up with was we had quit smoking about a year before… It’s at this point – I was trying to understand if it could be due to the absence of smoking (and all the chemicals) and the issue at hand. Was there a connection?

By 2015, appointments with a recommended neurologist brought multipe things – cat scans, blood tests, ultrasounds, thyroid, heart tests, electroencephalogram (EEG’s), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI’s), and led to eye tests (new glasses), ear/hearing tests, overnight monitors with cords strapped to her head to monitor brain waves (think Medusa!), and cognitive skills tests, were suddenly a partial list of our routine.

1999

Frustration

It is time-consuming, frustrating (and necessary) to figure out what is happening. Now, I’m not saying the first neurologist was behind the times, I’m just saying the equipment seemed antiquated – something that looked like it was from the 1970s.

He didn’t “find” anything, we had to keep making more appointments.

In the middle of 2015, we decided to get a second opinion to verify there was “nothing there” or found. Still, without an official diagnosis, she was prescribed Donepezil (Aricept) by her primary doctor, it immediately gave her vivid dreams and leg cramps.

I’ll be clear:

Donepezil is not a cure, and it states it does not cure Alzheimer’s disease, but it may improve memory, awareness, and the ability to function.

I’ll be more clear:

It also may NOT improve memory, awareness, and the ability to function, at least for my wife. Her symptoms remained – a lack of balance, depth perception, memory.

This is where I coined my phrase

Treating the symptom, not the cause – is never an effective outcome.”

2011

Being dismissed

Off to a second neurologist. There was, of course, further testing (mostly the same, because the 1st neurologist didn’t want to share records with the 2nd neurologist (((WHAT???))). By the time we could be ‘seen’, it was spring of 2016.

More of the same tests were conducted, which now also included an Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT) examination for equilibrium – and a cardiologist. No unusual problems. Fast forward for time and space, this doctor said they couldn’t find anything physically wrong. Stay with me…

A recurring statement was ‘[you’re] “she’s too young” for Alzheimer’s. Janice was not in her 60’s – she had just hit her 50’s. For the vaping and smoking readers, I inquired on the 2nd visit with him about reducing nicotine and/or the possibility of her not smoking and symptoms appearing a year or so after quitting – if it were possible that…

I was abruptly interrupted with arrogance and superiority by a rehearsed condescending blowhard. I could tell… I was conversing on, and with, very thick-headed ice.

So, we were told (by two “professionals”) at this point: “She’s too young to have memory problems”. Based on her MRI’s brain scans – the second doctor emphasized he couldn’t see anything unusual or physically wrong with my wife, insinuating symptoms indicated a mental problem. The “problems” were “all in her head”. Still with me?

I’ll repeat that: They couldn’t find anything physically wrong with Janice, but of course – encouraged follow-up visits to see if her condition ‘changed’.

Wait, what? If you can’t find anything…why would I schedule…. never mind. I wonder why the medical community wonders why patients don’t trust their doctors.

My (and her) response was asking if the diagnosis was mental… Not in defense, but my natural reaction was, and I did, tell this second doctor – if I thought something was mentally wrong with her, I’d have said so and taken her to a psychiatrist. After 20 something years – I’d have noticed. But, I could be wrong.

On the diminishing trust of the “professional”, we halfheartedly took his advice and went to the psychiatrist, once. Just in case. I wasn’t ‘allowed’ in. This ‘professional’, in one visit, determined he wanted her on more medication, immediately.

We didn’t fill the prescription, we didn’t go back.

Towards the end of 2016, and distraught, we weren’t giving up, and decided on a third neurologist. Now, two have “found nothing“. Considering her age at the time of whatever this “is” started at about 50, two professionals said she was “too young to have memory problems“.

Well, not according to my accounts. Her symptoms were still a lack of balance, depth perception, memory.

One of the motor skills and problem-solving evaluation tests was re-ordered. I find this of interest because she hated the test, but we both really liked the doctor, a psychologist. He remembered us, understood our frustration, and he listened. He asked what I thought were pertinent questions. Professional inquiries, standard as with others. He also asked what it was I first noticed – to prompt us on our quest.

I thought about it after explaining a few things – forgetting to turn off the stove, the frustration of not remembering to pay a bill a couple times, driving incidents, all seemingly minor details but way out of Jan’s detailed character over the years…

One thing I thought was minor, piqued his interest. I explained we shared a computer and when I came home – the screen was always turned to one side and not straight. Kinda lopsided.

A light-bulb went off just above his head. He said it was very interesting about the depth perception…………..

Perception. Depth. Dementia… Huh. I was catching on.

With 2017 and 2018 having various tests, appointments, and guesses eliminated, we found she had diabetes. Medication takes care of controls diabetes. Also along the way, the third neurologist sent her to an eye specialist – where he found – and then did cataract surgery for her in both eyes.

Having multiple MRIs obtained, the third doctor instead, (and thoughtfully) ordered a positron emission tomography scan (PET) scan (not covered normally by insurance, and it should be). Note, dear reader, the other neurologists never mentioned a PET scan. Once ordered, it was approved after a 2nd try because a PET scan is not, we learned, an “approved” method for determinations…(?!?!?). MRI’s were also hard to approve years ago, and now PET scans are still considered “research”.

Once approved, The doctor assured us it would be definitive, and show (if any) any abnormalities. Meanwhile, another on-site standard memory test (taken a few times already) was performed at his office by a practitioner. He got the results, and it brought him quickly into the room where he exclaimed to Janice: “You’re no longer allowed to drive”… We explained she hadn’t driven since around 2014. (Told you I’d get back to that).

The PET scan was approved – and results in December of 2019 clearly showed abnormalities consistent with early onset Alzheimer’s. That was a definitive answer. They can’t pinpoint any specific ‘stage’, but is considered: Stage 3. The definition fluctuates between 2, 3 and hovers around 4 on occasion.

“There are drugs to treat the symptoms of early and mid-stage Alzheimer’s.”

“Currently there is no drug or treatment that prevents Alzheimer’s or related dementias.”

Knowing there is no cure, there are experimental drugs and studies that she can participate in, Janice decided to decline both.

Life is not without incidents, struggles, and frustrations. We were searching for, and finally found the cause of her issues. Steps for balancing diabetes, cataract surgeries, and other issues have seemed to make day-to-day life – better. I say ‘better’ with emphasis and reason. More than anything, it was a sense of relief to know. Had we dismissed these signs at the beginning, we’d be quite a few years behind for a diagnosis.

In fact, if we were just starting to notice (and possibly ignoring) things, the behavior pattern today would make me think – something might be wrong with her. Now, after more than 29 years, there are very good days, and on occasion, not so good days. In my mind, we’re about 5-7 years ahead of the curve.

Final thoughts

2018

We are relieved knowing what it is, but not relieved by what it is. What is sad is three professionals inappropriately predetermined an answer, gaslighted, stigmatized, and embarrassed my wife, then left us to search for an answer for what seemed like an eternity.

This has been a long journey from the questionable – subtle – and not so subtle – symptoms, questions, appointments, fear, testing, analysis, discovery, and diagnosis.

Jan & our Grandson

In an imperfect world, there are things we cannot control. In a perfect world, you must live your life making decisions that control what is best for you and your loved ones.

It isn’t the end. While the future may be challenging, this has been a 29+ year path of old memories – between my wife and me.

Trying to quit smoking?

This suggests higher levels of nicotine may help. Fine, read it again, I’ll wait.

“Evidence then emerged that nicotine on its own, outside of tobacco products, has limited addictive potential and that higher doses are safe and well tolerated.”

“Despite this, stop-smoking medications have maintained lower nicotine levels in their products.”

Repeat customers are the best customers. They’ve been lying for years.

We MUST change public perception. We’re almost out of time.

Dr. Gottlieb: A New Threat

Didn’t I just use the words “preconceived” above?

Not necessarily a ‘new threat”, the decision seems – decided. If you recall last summer, almost 70,000 comments were submitted about flavors? While we haven’t heard a word about those (to my knowledge), now the FDA “will issue within a month the guidance implementing the policy steps…”  Um, what?  Huh.

These comments seem to string the public along for what looks like the inevitable.

“…puts the entire opportunity at risk for adult smokers.”

“if these trends don’t reverse sharply and rapidly, I fear the consensus supporting these products for adults will disappear.”

Meanwhile, ironically, and speaking of public comments, they want to offer children nicotine via “approved methods”. What say you?

Tobacco products promoted on Facebook despite policies

Since the 1970’s, there has been a ban on the advertising of tobacco. In 1970, President Nixon signed a law called the Public Health Cigarette Smoking Act  – banning cigarette ads on T. V. and radio – beginning January 2nd of 1971. (Link). To get around it, media runs combustible tobacco images along side ‘anti-tobacco’ groups –  and has for years.

Side note: The US Government has been secretly recruiting underage smokers since 1992 at an acceptable “noncompliance rate of no more than 20%“.

On August 8, 2016, the United States legally defined and, on National Tobacco Day, “deemed” nicotine as tobacco. Without a doubt, advertising on social media of e-liquid is both self-promoted and promoted by consumers. The government, media and tobacco control continue to do both.

Because I like to tug on short hairs… I’m surprised the e-cigarette market is still legally able to advertise on social media (with the idiotic nicotine warning). While anarchy and mob rules may apply for some, I wonder – with legal definition – just how long advertising will be -ignored- (also federal tobacco taxes imposed) and how long it will take to try to knock it all down – if they could only do it without emotion.

I think the push has started.

Dear Family, Friends, Parents, Educators and Medical Professionals: “The Real Cost”.

warning exist

Dear Family, Friends, Parents, Educators and Medical Professionals:

I consider you all intelligent and capable of thinking for yourselves. Each of you have the power of many that I cannot have alone. I consider the depth and importance you hold with your personal and professional lives.  I also consider that YOU have a responsibility, response, and an ability – with the vast outreach you have – to make a difference. I’m going with the theory that we’re all only within “six degrees of separation”.

I understand in order to ask for support, you need facts.

OWL
Years ago, Dad had a motto for his business. “Know for a fact”. I’ve adopted that for this very personal message. I hope to briefly educate and enlighten you in the following few minutes of your our lives.

Pardon The Intrusion

I do not like my family and friends being misinformed lied to.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has made what I normally kick, scream and rant about on my Twitter account, my other Facebook page, and here on my blog, much, MUCH more personal. It’s about informed public consumer choices. It’s about rights. It is about you.

“When tobacco use decreases, less smoking occurs.”

Those Damn Kids

Are you a parent?  I’ll let you decide if trusted “non-profit” groups like “Tobacco-Free Kids”  (created by Johnson & Johnson, makers of smoking “cessation” products and then secretly negotiated with tobacco giant Philip Morris) are marketing cigarettes and e-cigarettes to children here.  Or  trustworthy. (I’ll wait.)

Remember when the public health community and media claimed e-cigarettes were a “gateway” TO smoking? Huh.

Think about the statement Dr. Gottlieb has made about “marketing to children”. Are you able to exercise your parenting skills? Dr. Scott Gottlieb of the FDA doesn’t think so. Like cigarettes, the law states anyone underage (18 or 21) cannot purchase these NON-tobacco products legally.

What you aren’t being told is these restrictions could lead teenagers back to smoking. The FDA wants to convince the world (whether they smoke or not) using rhetoric, proof by assertion, pseudoscience sound bytes and the ever-popular “Think of the children™ that e-cigarettes are “just as dangerous” as smoking. They’re not. While I’ll try not to bore you, there is data, science and research (and links within this blog). There is no doubt.

By the way, while Dr. Gottlieb pretends “nicotine” is the problem, something he can’t prove, he is encouraging more smoking with the help of front groups and other officials.

Pfizer, maker of the “FDA Approved” drug Chantix (once black-boxed due to thousands of attempted and over 500 suicides ) was given to “adolescents” in the United States ages 12-16. They failed.

The struggle is real

Why aren’t “approved” nicotine patches and gums being passed out to teens like candy? I’m saying, and I’ll keep saying it: “If “children” are already smoking, they’re smokers regardless of age.” I’ll direct you to Shiela Vakharia’s statement below.

cigarettes

Smoking or not

If you’re a smoker, I’m not telling you to stop smoking. (Smokers can go here.) Because vaping businesses are no longer allowed to tell you, I’m telling you e-cigarettes are a safer, healthier, smoke-free choice. It is an alternative for smokers who want to quit.  Nothing more, nothing less. I’m telling you the FDA is trying to take away a choice that has worked for millions. A choice that works. This choice is being threatened.

I was told “stop smoking” since I was old enough to get caught smoking! I was told it was “nicotine“. It’s not. Have you ever caught a child stealing nicotine patches to feed their “addiction”?

Whiteboard nicotine lie
It wasn’t so easy. “Government approved” patches and gums didn’t work for me, but I didn’t know why. I never thought to ask about the 93% failure rates. I was told it was willpower. It’s not. I was told I wasn’t trying hard enough. I wasn’t, but I didn’t know smokers average 30 attempts before they quit. I was told a lot of things. I’ve been lied to before, but not to this grand scale. They call it a sin tax. They’re addicted to taxing smokers.

msa lucrative

I didn’t realize the discrimination and hatred against smokers is completely perpetuated by money. To call the anti-smoking movement “brainwashing” is an understatement. It is professional bullying. I didn’t realize it was a billion dollar industry – funded BY smoking. If this scale of hate was directed at any other group, there would be riots in the streets. Leave smokers alone.

Can you imagine

FDA will always promote science based decision making…”

~Dr. Scott Gottlieb

Cognitive dissonance is the mental discomfort experienced by a person who simultaneously holds two or more contradictory beliefs, ideas, or values.

Here’s Dr. Gottlieb and his sidekick Mitch “Zippy” Zeller – of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration exerting their arrogance mental “cognitive dissonance” disorder.

Gottlieb and Zeller large

In the process of regulation, restrictions, taxes and bans, Dr. Gottlieb is going to encumber 10 Million smokers, and millions more who may choose to purchase them as an alternative to smoking based on “attitudes, beliefs and intentions“.

The Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration…. what?

Dr. GottLIEb feels the need to use the word “convincingly”.

gottlieb convincingly

I’ve got another word: Manipulation.

Understanding

As a “professional smoker” for about 35 years, I found, by accident, an amazing product. An e-cigarette. Within 48 hours, it worked. It also worked for Janice. It has worked for some of you reading this, my family and friends. Sometimes it doesn’t. One son (23) does both and the other (20) still chooses to smoke.

For a while… I walked around happy I wasn’t smoking. My cough – a constant companion most of my life, had abandoned me in about a week. I was breathing better and felt better. I thought – well, it can’t be worse than smoking. I was both uncaring and blind to the issues and the controversy surrounding “e-cigarettes”. On the news, as you’ve all seen, I saw (a) report of “dangers” and I thought, no, you bastards – you are lying. You’re not telling the whole story.

david quote

On a cold winter night, I found David Goerlitz’ blog. He is the “Former Winston man”. In his blog, he explains the corruption from ANTI-tobacco groups (Body Parts™ groups – Heart, Lung, Cancer Associations) he WORKED for. These “non-profits” are funded by smoking. David FIRED me UP.

david with gottlieb.jpg

I read anything and everything. I started a blog. I joined Twitter. (Turns out, scientists, researchers and experts who don’t lie are real and on Twitter.) I joined Facebook groups to learn more.

Dave fired me up. At that point, I was on a mission to change the world. Without knowing better – within days – on December 17th, 2014 – I created a survey to show what others like me already knew to show YOU and others – our experiences… 7,238 people took it around the world. Around the world. Proudly, It’s been used and quoted in a few places. My mission for that survey was to tell other smokers there is another option. A place they could read about what others doing it – said. Reducing or eliminating asthma medications, lower blood pressure – and much, much more.

I found quickly – the experts, media, and (no surprise) government do not care about the truth. They don’t care about facts. Wait. They care about manipulating the facts. I don’t like you not knowing for a fact.

“The Real Cost”

Fear is a lack of knowledge. Knowledge is power.

The Food and Drug Administration will be spending money placing propaganda in your minds called “The Real Cost“. They” want to regulate, restrict, tax and ban a choice by using “children” as a ploy.

taxes ecigs.jpg

Here’s where you come in. I’d like you to consider how you can help, and it won’t cost you a dime. I’m asking you to stand up. Raise your hand. Question those in authority. Engage. If you have doubts, questions, concerns, thoughts… ask me. If you have friends, colleagues, associates, family, medical professionals… direct them to me. If I do not know the answer, I’ll ask someone else.

Please consider a *free* membership by joining the consumer group CASAA.

They released this comprehensive explanation today:

“We believe that even if youth use were increasing, it is still a public health benefit – provided that use of smoking products continues to fall.”

“Epidemic?” A Perspective of Youth Vaping & Tobacco Use Trends

It isn’t just me. Oliver Kershaw also explains it here:

“Treating the symptom, not the cause – is never an effective outcome.”
You are my friends and family. I wouldn’t want you thinking funding is the root of the created opioid epidemic, either.
Turns out, in my mission to change the world, the world has changed me.
Each of you have the power of many that I cannot have alone. I consider you all intelligent and able to think for yourselves, and I thank you for your time.

This, from Diane Caruana – goes right along with what I said above.

Heat Not Burn

It isn’t my business to coerce someone NOT to try something that might just work. As a consumer, I’d like to know my options. As a human, I show bias. I try not to.  I am for choice. If someone has decided to switch from smoking, “doesn’t quite like” e-cigarettes, (or patches, gums, toothpicks) and can find another alternative, then they should be able to both try, and choose.

“I’m for whatever works for the informed consumer. Patch, gum, Heat Not Burn, vaping, acupuncture, books, hypnosis, counseling, etc…. Do I “like” them all? No. It’s not about or me or are what “I” like. What may work as choice for a consumer is first.”

Do I like the idea it is made by a tobacco company? Not really. Do I think it will be beneficial to smokers trying to switch much more efficiently than pharmaceuticals? Yes. Does that make me happy? Why yes, bias-ly I answer, thanks for asking. Is judgment on the product based on who makes it? Yes. Stop that.

The “Heat Not Burn” sector of ~not smoking~ IS another option, and I’ve heard good things about it.

FDA launches “Every Try Counts” campaign to manipulate smokers

EveryTryCounts.jpg

FDA launches “Every Try Counts” campaign

Attention, smokers. The FDA launched their latest campaign to help smokers with an “adult smoking cessation education” campaign aimed at encouraging cigarette smokers to quit through messages of support called “Every Try Counts”. While the challenge will remain the same, their “tough love” approach of demonizing and shaming and nicotine guilt trips has turned into – well, a softer, kinder “positive” type of manipulation to say the same thing. Keep trying.

There seemed to be buzzwords like “stakeholders“, “medicinal” products, and “health” coupled with “technology” and “smoke-free society”. In the latest battle cry of “Every Try Counts“, there certainly seemed to be more grab-assery in the almost 2 1/2 hour Glantzian propaganda video than there was “effort” put forth by the FDA.

I did find e-cigarettes. The “e-cigarette” section of this campaign claiming “for now, we do not know” is difficult to find and treated like a red-headed stepchild on the naughty step (hat tip to Agent Ania who I adored and miss dearly), here.

What I know they know is in their possession all over this blog here, and here and so on.

“Every Try Counts”

In the latest smokescreen release:

“The FDA is committed to reducing tobacco-related disease and death by helping people quit combustible cigarettes and implementing comprehensive policies to reduce addiction to nicotine. Our aim is to render cigarettes minimally or non-addictive”

Stop. Do you know what a 100 Million+ Dollar commitment of comprehensive policies from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) return on investment might look like? I do.

*If any of you know of 100 million dollars being spent in a similar fashion for e-cigarettes, snus, etc., PLEASE link them in the comments.

fda conflict of interest.JPG

I couldn’t tell if this was a slip, or a tactically designed ploy by using the words “spectrum of risk” at 1:03:40 and 1:04:07 in the video….

According to “22nd Century” – “Spectrum” is the name of their product at this time)

bold is my emphasis within below:

MRTP designation

Perhaps the most immediate upside comes from the possibility of its very low nicotine cigarettes Brand A (containing 95% less nicotine compared to conventional cigarettes) to get the Modified Risk Tobacco Product (MRTP) designation.

The company would then be able to market Brand A as such, a very low nicotine cigarette which has less health risk as it reduces addiction.

An official application was made to the FDA in December last year, and a rather substantial meeting (involving no less than 22 FDA staff members and another 20 by telephone) took place within two weeks, suggesting substantial FDA interest.

This interest was already evident from the ($10M) financing by the FDA and NIDA of a landmark study using 22nd Century’s Spectrum research cigarettes that appeared in October 2015 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine.

This double blind, parallel, randomized clinical trials involving 840 smokers, found that smokers of Spectrum very low nicotine cigarettes consumed far fewer cigarettes per day and doubled their quit attempts versus smokers of cigarettes with conventional nicotine content.

“Every Try Counts”

Here’s the “landmark study”:

Randomized Trial of Reduced-Nicotine Standards for Cigarettes

How will the FDA get a return on investment with this campaign? They’re in the tobacco business. They’ll sell more cigarettes and collect the tax. I predicted it in advance here, and where “expert” personalities and political front groups are on board, I covered it here.

“while encouraging the development of potentially less harmful tobacco products for adults who still want or need access to nicotine.”

Well, thanks very much.

Continued babbling

The announcement rambles on, stating:

“At the same time, we’re also taking new steps to improve access and use of FDA-approved medicinal nicotine products to help smokers quit.”

The government and experts claim “government approved methods work to help smokers” but no one brags of 93% failure rates. No one mentions false hopes choosing those options. No one mentions the methods approved by the government, fanatically promoted and shoved into smokers faces, are designed to fail.

Imagine my surprise to see political front groups such as the Heart, Lung, Truth Initiative along with CVS “pledging” resources manipulation with the FDA.

The last campaign was a $200 million dollar flop.

Every Try Counts, right before your eyes

There’s a hashtag “#MedNicotine ” entangled in the manipulation.

What Duke-Margolis is quoting from Fred Saunders of Glaxo-Smith Kline (GSK) to smokers is:

Give us a call because you’re too stupid to understand we’re not going to make a product to help you, so call us: we’ll explain how you’ll fail. These products are useless without counseling. Give us money. Do as you’re told. Use them anyway.

Fundamentally.

Fund Us Mentality.

Added 12/14/17:

The day after this blog, this comes across my eyes:

“preclinical research conducted at Duke University”

Seems “#MedNicotine” was pretty serious….

Seems “Every Try  Counts” includes “medical nicotine”.

Axsom Therapeutics Collaborates with World-Leading Nicotine Addiction Research Center for Phase 2 Trial of AXS-05 in Smoking Cessation

The FDA can’t prove nicotine addiction or gateways exist.

Without tobacco/maio’s, Nicotine is not addictive.

When will the class action law suits begin?

One more thing. I primarily tweet and blog about e-cigs, but that does not mean I am against Heat not burn, snus, and so on. In my opinion, if you’re trying, it all counts.

I saw “dip” but Swedish Snus isn’t talked about enough, either.

VapesGiving Event Aims to Raise Huge Funding Goals to help Advocacy

Instead of focusing on what “can’t” be done, consider what CAN be done. Considering what is at stake, there is NO reason #VapesGiving can’t raise millions with this movement. This is beyond overdue.

Companies, including manufacturers, are joining with multiple advocacy groups to raise what should be nothing short of millions to attain results at any and all levels.

If you are IN business and not doing “anything”, I implore you to assess this and make some noise by making a difference. If you are already, I thank you.

Feds Owe the Public ‘Corrective Statements’ on Vaping

The verdict is in if you’re in the United States, you’re seeing tobacco companies court-ordered advertising on television for the 1st time since the 70’s. Sally Satel & Guy Bentley explain why the Feds owe the public the same courtesy.

While they mention the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Surgeon General, I can come up with a list of defendants in other parts of this blog upon request.

Long-term vaping causes no negative health results [new study]

Last week, I inadvertantly skipped this article by Jim McDonald.

“They found that the vapers had no negative health outcomes, and in fact showed results that were virtually indistinguishable from those of the non-vapers.”

Indistinguishable. This study extinguishes concerns, certainly, as to a smoker switching or dual using, and the very few and hard to find, who may take up vaping as opposed to smoking.

Senator Todd Kaminsky claims: “Vaping nearly doubled”.

propaganda.jpg

Senator Todd Kaminsky, (D) NY Senate District 9 has concluded a “discussion” last night, proudly and ambiguously stating he

“… held an expert panel to discuss the dangers of this newfound trend” claiming “Vaping has nearly doubled since 2014“.

“DANGER IN DISGUISE” is on the banner in front of the “expert” panel.

With obvious facts in hand, there wouldn’t be presumptuous assertions or a need to corrupt the crowd (of eager parents) with preconceived or contrived notions from an expert panel.

If it has “doubled”, good. Less smoking among teens, what’s the problem?

If it has, please, show your work to the class, Senator.

I’ll assume since Senator Kaminsky is “a leader on ethics reform & corruption” (referred to here), there would be no need for me to assume there could be broad manipulation or ommission of facts in this discussion.

No, I assume credibility & fact-checking was of the highest priority before the discussion began.

Now, different than the normal rhetoric, he didn’t say it doubled with the normally ever-present words like “youth”, “children” or “kids” in his post(s), instead, for the sake of my own sanity, “Think of the children™”, I’ll describe it as implied.

Assumptions

My assumption is he and the expert panel “are” referring to “children”… if anyone has video or a transcript to the “discussion” or data used, please comment below.

For those that care, keep up and are watching:

What I still can find is still the latest from the National Institute on Drug Abuse” via the “Monitoring the Future (MTF) survey” from 2016 found here:

For a second year in a row, the MTF survey asked high school students about their use of electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes).

Significant decreases in use from last year were reported by:

8th (6.2 vs. 9.5 percent)

10th (10.3 vs. 14.0 percent)

12th graders (12.4 vs. 16.2 percent).

I can only assume this will lead to another attempt to promote what is “Tobacco 21” or youth smoking covered here and here and here and here.

What I cannot find is “vaping nearly doubled”. If anyone has it, please link it in the comments below so I can publicly

  • Apologize publicly and directly to Senator Kaminsky
  • Correct the numbers so I can pretend I’m an expert!

I’ve said this before.

I’ll repeat it: “If “children” are *already smoking, they’re *smokers regardless of age. Think of the children™.”

I predict, as others have, rates among “kids” will go up in the next few years. I’m not against that.

“When tobacco use decreases, less smoking occurs.”

What I do know is “nicotine” is now wrongly classified as “tobacco”.

What I also know, Senator, is New York has top billing with the long-standing Master Settlement Agreement Ponzi scheme.

Ask the expert!

I encourage you to voice your questions or concerns on these matters on his public Twitter and Facebook accounts.

“T21 has potential to increase use rates through psychological reactance, and out of protest once the targeted demographic realizes their right to choose has been removed.”

“They” want tobacco to be restricted to adults, they want to restrict adults from tobacco, and e-cigarettes.

Could Tobacco 21 increase smoking rates?

Then And Now ~ Bullying ~ What Are They Smoking ~ Politics ~ A Billion Lives

Then & Now

The FDA now headed by Scott Gottlieb, M.D. is not only on a “nicotine dangers” kick, they’re funding and promoting it.

Nicotine, as I’ve previously concluded for you, is not addictive without tobacco & MAOI’s.

Now, there’s another NIH article for you to consider on the association of addiction. They know better, they just won’t admit it.

“nicotine concentration was associated, albeit weakly, with dependence among e-cigarette users.”

Then and now: Consumption and dependence in e-cigarette users who formerly smoked cigarettes.

Are you familiar with INNCO?

Bullying

Tobacco Free Kids loves to use the illusion of tobacco companies “bullying” their way into more sales… because I care, here are a few examples below.

Well, tobacco CONtrol isn’t immune.

They would NEVER control from within or bully their own…

right….

These ideas were presented as scientific facts, not subject to debate. In fact, if we were to challenge the ideas, the implication was that we – ourselves – might be accused of working for Big Tobacco or receiving secret payoffs.

The most prominent and dogmatic idea presented to us was that “The debate is over.” There is no room for questioning of the link between secondhand smoke and chronic disease. Anyone who challenges that link or suggests that it is being exaggerated must therefore be a front for the tobacco industry. No reasonable person – acting of their own accord – would challenge this undebatable science.”
