Clowns To The Left Of Me, Research To The Right

I invested a bit of thought for the title of this particular blog. It is my intent is to both entertain and educate. With clowns to the left of me, research to the right, on average, I trust I can reach my goal.

Normally I spend about two or three hours on any blog. While some flow naturally in under an hour – some take time. Depending on my schedule, some take a day or two.

While I’m pretty wordy, this one will be short – at least for me.

I’ll let this video below speak for itself.

Go ahead, click on it. You know you want to. It’ll take under a minute.

Send In The Clowns

I hope you enjoyed that. I did. Share it all you like. Or not.

Send In The Research!

Next, I’d like to share this video. It’s about struggles you may have experienced. It’s a bit longer at 2:11.

I hope you enjoyed that. I did. Share it all you like. Or not.

It’s been noted by a few about sharing and liking posts, calls to action, meme’s, videos, hand checks and such.

It’s all in good fun. Some things need to be shared with the right people, right away.

Like legislation, restrictions, bans, etc.

Some things are meant to make you think. Some things are downright funny. Some things are meant to engage you in serious thought. Some, like this specific post, is meant to be all of that.

The clown video above was inspired by this tweet by our friend DrMA:

There’s no such thing as SEIS, ENDS, or ENNDS. Everything else is #quackery and you’re a clown— DrMA (@mihotep) December 20, 2018

The second video was inspired – believe it or not – from a deleted tweet (YES I wish I had an attention-grabbing screen-shot of it) from someone showing a photograph of a *guess who* ad similar to this I made.

In her tweet, she was concerned about someone under age seeing that ad. The top had the gratuitous nicotine warning, the bottom was the company name and the link to the study printed in black and white, with no child-enticing photos… in a newspaper. After my tweet to her here

…I got home the next day, I though – DAMN IT, GENIUS marketing! As I went back to take a screen-shot of her (I assume she thought twice about it -and deleted it) tweet, it was gone.

Sheer brilliance. It takes an average of thirty tries. They had typed it thirty times. They got away with using (a study/research/truth) without saying a word. Brilliance.

I couldn’t read the study the ad referred to but believe it was this one.

We should absolutely pay attention to what is shared in respective networks and groups. More importantly, what, like below, was not. Thanks to Ed for finding the link below from the Moffit Center from February……2018.

Why wasn’t this next link plastered all over mainstream media?

E-Cigarettes OK to Quit Smoking

In the end – this is about awareness and information.

Keep inspiring each other.

POLL time!

This poll (created by me) will take less than 15 seconds. Comments are welcome and sharing is encouraged among your friends, family, cat, dog… you get the idea. Thank you!

Trying to quit smoking?

This suggests higher levels of nicotine may help. Fine, read it again, I’ll wait.

“Evidence then emerged that nicotine on its own, outside of tobacco products, has limited addictive potential and that higher doses are safe and well tolerated.”

“Despite this, stop-smoking medications have maintained lower nicotine levels in their products.”

Repeat customers are the best customers. They’ve been lying for years.

Intolerable False Statements by FDA’s Mitch Zeller

Dr. Gottlieb: A New Threat

Didn’t I just use the words “preconceived” above?

Not necessarily a ‘new threat”, the decision seems – decided. If you recall last summer, almost 70,000 comments were submitted about flavors? While we haven’t heard a word about those (to my knowledge), now the FDA “will issue within a month the guidance implementing the policy steps…”  Um, what?  Huh.

These comments seem to string the public along for what looks like the inevitable.

“…puts the entire opportunity at risk for adult smokers.”

“if these trends don’t reverse sharply and rapidly, I fear the consensus supporting these products for adults will disappear.”

Meanwhile, ironically, and speaking of public comments, they want to offer children nicotine via “approved methods”. What say you?

Vaping: Let’s Get This Out Of The Way

James Jarvis, President of the Ohio Vapor Trade Association

VAPING: “Let’s get this out of the way for 2019”.

In a recent post, James Jarvis discussed common myths about vaping, stating “Let’s get this out of the way for 2019.”

Not only is James Jarvis is President of Ohio Vapor Trade Association (OHVTA), he’s also a consumer. I’ve been to Columbus a couple times to see him, and I’ll describe James simply as good people. He cares about smokers having proper information and he cares about the industry.

To the point, a post on his Facebook page got me to thinking… if some vapers genuinely don’t know or are confused about information, how can the public know?

Let’s change that. Now. Let’s get this out of the way: Educators and legislators must learn.

On Public Record.

With the battle preconceived and one-sided (predetermined in some instances) for power and funding, authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ) of their respective township, town, city, and state must be made aware of all sides of this issue in their communities.

If an opportunity arises for three minutes at a podium, this can be read, memorized – as is – or modified, printed to dispel myths about vaping products and nicotine.

Politely – and directly engaging each concern immediately in front of decision-makers, with proper sources for authorities given the task of deciding the fate of (your) regulations, restrictions, taxes, and bans shows a proactive approach to their concerns no matter what the opposition.

I saw his list and was inspired. I have provided his points about vaping (numbered) from his post and link(s) to each point made.

James said: “Let’s get this out of the way for 2019″… ” I agree.

Let’s get this out of the way

1. Popcorn Lung is not caused from vapor products

From Dr Farsalinos, Brad Rodu, Dr. Siegel and more, a collection of evidence to the contrary:

A Bucket Full of Popcorn

2. E-Liquid does not contain tobacco

(some liquids do contain nicotine which is extracted from the tobacco plant. It can also be synthetic)

Are E-Cigarettes Tobacco Products?

Schrodinger’s Nicotine: Not Derived From Tobacco

American Cancer Society on vaping: Nicotine is not tobacco

3. Nicotine is classified by the FDA just like caffeine

53% of medical professionals say it’s like caffeine, and only 4 percent said it was “dangerous”.

Medical Professionals Speak Out on E-Cigarettes.

Also: Difference Between Caffeine and Nicotine

FDA says How Much Caffeine is Too Much?

Ironic, the FDA has removed the link stating

The changes being recommended by FDA include a removal of the warning that consumers should not use an NRT product if they are still smoking, chewing tobacco, using snuff or any other product that contains nicotine—including another NRT.”

is gone. I did find the statement here:

Here are screen shots of the original statements

4. Tomato, Eggplant, and all nightshade veggies contain nicotine

“Nicotine is an alkaloid found in the nightshade family of plants (Solanaceae), predominantly in tobacco, and in lower quantities in tomato, potato, eggplant (aubergine), and green pepper. Nicotine alkaloids are also found in the leaves of the coca plant.”

Nicotine is also found in tea.

Nicotine

The nicotine contents of vegetables

Let’s get this out of the way

5. Nicotine DOES NOT cause cancer.

What medical ‘experts’ hide: Nicotine does NOT cause cancer

Nicotine has no association with cancer. There is no supportable evidence to link nicotine with cancer, and a vast amount of evidence (and irrefutable facts) that there is no such link.

Nicotine And Cancer – Is There Any Link?

6. Vape Shops DO NOT want youth to use vapor products, which is why we ID and refuse service

“all vape shops inspected were found to be in compliance”

7. The nicotine used in patches, gums and lozenges is the same as whats used in vapor….

( why is vapor more dangerous???)

It’s the same nicotine.

“Nicotine can also be purchased in many other forms including patches, chewing gum, and liquid extract formula.” That’s here.

8. Vapor is at least 95% – 99% safer than combustible tobacco

According to the Royal College of Physicians and Public Health England:

Nicotine without smoke: Tobacco harm reduction

9. Vapor is NOT a gateway to tobacco.

1.7 Million High Schoolers Vaped in 2016, As Both Vaping and Smoking Declined

Smoking among teens is at their lowest ever, showing 7.60% “monthly use”, 3.6% “daily use“.

10. Vapor is the consumer created solution to the tobacco problem.

Clive Bates take this subject on directly:

Innovation for Consumers: E-cigarettes and novel tobacco products – Part of the problem or part of the solution?

11. While youth use of the product Juul has risen, It is far from epidemic proportions. What is an youth epidemic you ask? Alcohol, Opioids and other drugs.

Marijuana = 22.20% “past month”

Illicit Drugs = 24.00% “past month”.

Vaping (any) = 26.70% “past month”

Alcohol = 30.20% “past month”

Monitoring the Future

James closes with his post adding “I hope this helps you understand what Vapor is and is not…. any other questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.”

In addition to the statements James made above, I’ve added more points commonly brought forth and used by jurisdictions when trying to regulate, restrict, tax and ban businesses below.

Let’s get this out of the way

12. Tobacco 21

A movement in the United States is raising the age of sale of tobacco to 21. While valiant in effort, it both restricts 18-year-old adults from products (e-cigs, snus, etc.) that can help them quit smoking and shows little progress to reduce smoking rates.

The Consumer Advocates for Smoke Free Alternatives Association (CASAA) released this statement about “Tobacco 21” laws:

CASAA Tobacco 21 policy statement: “Including low-risk alternatives in T21 laws is unwise, misleading”

There’s lack of enforcement

Consumer group THR4Life has this Tobacco 21 Tool Kit

As Senator Steve Linthicum (R – Oregon) puts it,

“freedom from responsibility” will enable more state intervention for many years to come.

The Senator’s Op-Ed is here:

Smoking age law simply more nanny state

Tobacco 21 laws enacted are showing smoking increases with laws that includ vapor products.

Electronic Cigarette Age Restrictions May Drive Teens to Traditional Cigarettes

Here, a study showed “Increasing the minimum legal purchase age  (MLPA) to 21 years in NYC did not accelerate reductions in youth tobacco use any more rapidly than declines observed in comparison sites.”

Impact of New York City’s 2014 Increased Minimum Legal Purchase Age on Youth Tobacco Use.

From Robert Morgan:

Harm Reduction Drives Younger Vapers, Not Flavors

Brad Rodu discusses the Synar Amendment:

“Beginning in 1997, Washington required states to report underage sales via the Synar Program (here).  The latest Synar data shows that 9.6% of retailers were noncompliant in 2013.  The FDA also conducts compliance checks of tobacco retailers.  In 2016, the FDA reported a noncompliance rate of 11% (here).  The FDA should focus on this far more dangerous illegal cigarette sales issue, rather than obsessing over e-cigarettes. “

FDA Aims at Wrong Target in Effort to Protect Teens

Also, Brian Fotjik has this to say:

Legislation To Raise Tobacco (And E-Cigarette) Age Is Unnecessary, Risky Public Health Implications of Raising the Minimum Age of Legal Access to Tobacco Products

13. Withholding information:

Being restricted by law (I’m not as a consumer) is not an easy task for shops to contend with. Shops cannot say e-cigarettes could help ‘quit smoking’, or they’re safer than…

“We argue that omitting key health relevant information for current or prospective consumers represents a kind of quarantine of health-relevant information”

Withholding differential risk information on legal consumer nicotine/tobacco products: The public health ethics of health information quarantines

Let’s get this out of the way

14. Nicotine “addiction”

Ignored since 2011, Hanan Frenk and Reuven Dar submitted this to the Harm Reduction Journal:

“We show that the nicotine addiction model presented in this chapter, which closely resembles its 22 years old predecessor, could only be sustained by systematically ignoring all contradictory evidence.”

If the data contradict the theory, throw out the data: Nicotine addiction in the 2010 report of the Surgeon General

This shows “The effects of nicotine on the brain are similar to those of sugar, salt, exercise, and other harmless substances and events. “There are so many findings that conflict so starkly with the view that nicotine is addictive that it increasingly appears that adhering to the nicotine addiction thesis is only defensible on extra-scientific grounds.”

This is what the link shows now:

15. HIGHER nicotine levels are SAFE.

Let’s get this out of the way

16. Second-hand vapor

From the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health :

“We evaluated concerns about exposure to vaping-related chemicals in a vape shop. Exposure to flavoring chemicals (diacetyl, 2,3-pentanedione, acetaldehyde), formaldehyde, nicotine, and propylene glycol were all below occupational exposure limits.”

That is here:

HIGHER Nicotine Levels Are Safe

Quit smoking patch gum

HIGHER nicotine levels are SAFE.

A new study shows higher nicotine levels are safe – “nicotine on its own, outside of tobacco products, has limited addictive potential, and that higher doses are safe and well tolerated

As I typed the title of this blog, I could almost hear the thump of foreheads hitting desks of various alphabet soup groups, the heads of the FDA and other distinguished ‘experts’.

You know what? Good.

Thirty+ years of outright lies (or incompetence) need to stop.

“We’ve always done it this way”

If you’re in the business specifically of “helping smokers”, pay attention.

I’ve said this before. It is imperative: do not limit nicotine strength.

Now new research shows HIGHER levels of nicotine may help.

  • Of the 50 participants, 90 per cent progressed to at least three patches, while 72 per cent progressed to four patches.
  • 82 per cent of participants achieved four weeks validated abstinence from smoking, and experienced no significant increase in withdrawal symptoms, including urges to smoke.
  • Cigarette consumption, smoke intake and enjoyment of smoking declined significantly during the pre-quit period, and the intervention was rated as helpful and easy to adhere to.

I didn’t see this coming.

  1. Evidence then emerged that nicotine on its own, outside of tobacco products, has limited addictive potential
  2. higher doses are safe and well tolerated

Are you intrigued? I’m intrigued. You ponder that, dear reader, I’ll move along.

Now two questions!

  1. Will quitlines and tobacco control groups be able to say those two things above without hurting their lies and egos for the past 30 years?
  2. Will drug companies rush to make levels of nicotine higher to get back in the game and bring their success rates up?

On #1, I expect abruptly changing their standard nicotine statements – or changing public opinion – would not be difficult to do, but will be difficult to swallow. Face it, if they succeed doing what they’re designed to do – helping smokers quit, they will go out of ‘business’. They don’t want that.

On #2, Will drug companies begin offering increased nicotine levels/strengths in patches? I’ll bet they will. It makes good business sense.

Above, I typed the words “do not limit nicotine strength”. You’ve been taught scolded like a child about nicotine “addiction”.

Dependence, like caffeine? Possibly. I’ll almost accept dependence. I’m still on the fence.

Nicotine is not addictive.

Addiction? No. You can see my short answers here, the (much) longer version here, or take my challenge here.

The study went on to say “Our results also suggests that one of the reasons e-cigarettes are so much more popular and potentially more effective than other nicotine replacement treatments is that smokers can adjust their nicotine intake according to their needs.”

Here’s the link:

Trying to quit smoking? New research suggests higher levels of nicotine may help

Nicotine: It is not you, it is them.

How many times have you tried to stop smoking? Did you think to ask about success rates with the product you were using? Slick marketing, heavy support from ‘non-profit’ organizations of ineffective products having 93% failure rates make big companies donating big money to those non-profits richer.

It is not you. It is them.

It also gives a license to the “morally superior” ‘authority’ to blame you. Keep trying. Try harder. You can do it. You’re not trying hard enough.

They’re not trying hard enough.

Nicotine Failure Rates

While patches (and presumably gums, inhalers, etc.) are at certain strengths, we know they have very low (7%) success rates, and it takes an average of THIRTY tries for smokers trying to quit.

“Morals are standards set by those who want their standards met by others.”

Interesting, because the stigma wrongly associated with nicotine is addictive” and “bad”. Public health professionals have been instilling fear in soccer moms by demonizing nicotine for over 30 years- while beating smokers to death with hate and pointing fingers as if it were your fault.

“Convincing smokers that nicotine is addictive is a multi-billion dollar global lie.”

Things they don’t talk about in public. That’s the agenda. By actively concealing the truth (or doing as they’re told), they’ve lied about nicotine very effectively for a very long time.

Nicotine Experts Are Not Experts

According to this article from 2017, Philip Morris studied nicotine replacement therapies in the 90’s and found they were not hurting sales. No worries. This makes sense, and they were obviously right. Those are experts.

Tobacco control cult member Professor Glantz admits anti-smoking is 20 or 30 years behind the tobacco companies. In fact, self-proclaimed experts like Glantz have falsely recommended these products for years without a grasp on how they, or nicotine works.

“The assertion of nicotine “addiction” by “public health” is profitable and absurd.”

Glantz, while blaming lack of money “they have much more resources”, has had no problem (*wink*) taking money to promote (nicotine replacement therapy”) as proven (*wink*) to help smokers quit, (*wink*) adding that smokers need “regular counseling to use it properly” and displays ZERO expertise or integrity.

“Nicotine on its own, outside of tobacco products, has limited addictive potential, higher doses are safe and well tolerated”

Why do ineffective products continue to be promoted – giving smokers the false impression they work?

Because the hype and propaganda of nicotine ‘addiction’ without tobacco and MAOI’s, and ‘brain damage’ in teens, in humans, are unfounded.

Because there is no focus on helping smokers quit.  Because more money to help regulate tobacco products and to study the effects of new ‘tobacco’ products keep rolling in.

Think of the progress “anti-tobacco” could have made if they only applied themselves… and tried harder.

Vapers and shops.

With all that above, higher nicotine levels are safe. They are imperative. Think of the popularity (and ease) of Juul. Love them or hate them, they have high nicotine strength. My Grandmother would have adapted to those with ease. No filling, no fuss. Gram wouldn’t have joined Facebook groups to try to figure out ohms, watts, coils, builds.

Out of disgust, Gram would have tossed a blinking or non-working frustrating ‘best thing ever’ mod she paid $150.00 for in the trash the first time it wouldn’t have worked and lit her Pall Mall non-filter without hesitation. She’d have gone for cig-a-likes or ego style kits because nicotine strength and throat hit is that important.

Had I not started with 18mg (I’m still on it), and started on 3, 6, or 9mg nicotine – I might not be writing this blog, or maybe eventually I’d have picked up a *shudder* Juul.

“I know why the patch & gum didn’t work for me. I was afraid of becoming addicted to nicotine.”

Now, look around your shop – or if you’re not a shop owner, look around the shop you frequent. What is being offered? What is being sold? What nicotine strengths do you carry? Are there ‘old-school’ starter kits or cig-a-likes?

Are there strengths up to at least 18 or 24mg? Choice.

Preaching to the choir.

If you’re using a high powered device and very low nicotine, theories and titrations have been discussed here by our friend Alan Beard:

Evolving Nicotine Usage and Consequences

In The End

As a consumer, I’m excited and commend this forward-thinking progress for nicotine patches. It is intriguing and solidifies my ‘do not limit nicotine strength‘ in a whole new light – even for me.

As I am of the ‘whatever works’ (and choice)  to reduce harms from smoking.

I also see this as the beginning of the fall of ivory towers of what is called “tobacco control“.

I’m not shutting up.

Epidemic from Surgeon General is Fraud

Fraud Of Epidemic Proportions

Despite lack of evidence, U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams straightened his gig line and took his orders by announcing (and will stand by) his fraudulent claim of e-cigarette use by teens being categorized as an epidemic. Prefaced months ago as ‘preliminary data’ and ‘unreleased numbers’ by Dr. Gottlieb, anti-tobacco groups began chanting warning signs of an ‘epidemic’ to mass media early in 2018.

The word “epidemic” has been sung in unison in a few church pews, school halls and a high number of city council meetings with concerned scowling parents, teachers, and other self-important people holding positions over the summer. If you listen closely, you can still hear it echoing.

After (finally, whew!) releasing the much anticipated “Monitoring the Future” (MTF) data showing past thirty-day use at 26.70%, the Surgeon General climbed in his pulpit and boldly announced a problem officially classifying e-cigarette use among teens an ‘epidemic’ – using 30-day figures, not daily use. “ANY” vaping.

All inclusive. Fraud. Lies. Manipulation of data. Misrepresentation. I’ll get back to that. The results showing daily data from the Surgeon General is… well, it isn’t available.

As valuable tax dollars and thousands of labor hours counting the ‘real cost’ go to waste, wouldn’t any reasonable person find it imperative to have daily data?

Odd Epidemic

Specifically, ‘nicotine addiction’ is blamed for the epidemic. For you die-hard officials, pay attention: gateway to smoking claims are out –  but flavors are still in play, “nicotine addiction” is the primary focus. Marketing is blamed as well. (Hope I didn’t lose any of you there.) Those sneaky teens are industrious. Clearly able to outsmart a nation of adults –  the FDA is now trying to figure out “what to do” with those unruly teens.

No nicotine patch or gum use was reported

While nicotine addiction is blamed, surprisingly, no teens had tried to hide their addiction by advancing to the much less conspicuous nicotine patches or gums. Isn’t that surprising? They didn’t want to conceal their… well that’s just odd! Maybe they wanted to get caught. Ah, well. Kids.

Unethical hypocrites censor valuable information for fear of their own fiscal health.

No Proof Of Epidemic

I’m officially announcing a problem with dependence on a 30-day number having an end goal to restrict adult access. The ONLY goals are to regulate, restrict, tax and ban e-cigarettes.

“we’re going to encumber adult smokers by putting in place restrictions that make these products less attractive, or harder to purchase by adults.” (Source)

The restriction on adults rests on NOT showing daily use.

What we don’t know about the survey:

  • What users were of legal age
  • What users did not use nicotine
  • How many were smoking and switched
  • Why is marijuana included with “any vaping“?
  • Why is “use” defined as in the past thirty days, not daily

I looked for answers to these questions. If they’re available, I can’t find any. I don’t know if they asked the question of “daily use“,  they didn’t want to know, or they don’t want anyone to know. Must be really bad!

Wait a minute… one of the largest answers to show teen use, with the claim of an epidemic hanging over every adult who will be restricted from access while every hack journalist and public health official’s fingertips burn up keyboards… and they didn’t ASK about daily use?

Huh…

There’s nothing left for the government to do but falsely claim an ‘epidemic’.

I have a “feeling” daily use was not asked (or withheld) on purpose. It is much more convenient to alter sentiment, tone, perception, and MISrepresentation to the public of a manufactured “epidemic” because it isn’t what it “seems“.

Why this crack staff didn’t think it was important to ask what should be the obvious (and truthful) answer is beyond me. Results released do not show daily use. If you’ve “used” an e-cig in the past 30 days does not equal using them for the past 30 days.

They ask daily use for alcohol, cigarettes, smokeless tobacco, and other (but not all) questions.

One would think the most important answer to dig for would be daily use on any question.

What Don’t We Know?

I, among others, have decided to take Dr. Adams to task. Line by line. “Past month” use is not equal to “daily use” and therefore does not constitute any meaning of ‘epidemic’.

On the survey, “alcohol” is 30.20% for “past month” use. Quite high! On the surface, I would call that a huge concern. No one said ‘epidemic’. I wondered why.

I myself conducted a survey in 2015. 85% of medical professionals agree: Ecigs are safer. 96% of medical professionals think nicotine is safe.

What I did tell you is true. What I didn’t tell you is 84 professionals took the survey. With a snappy headline, you’d have to take my word for it.

One thing I’ve learned over the past few years is – it is pretty simple to lie, cheat, manipulate and mislead statistics.

It isn’t what they tell you … it’s how and what they decide to tell you.

Epidemic Illusions

The Surgeon General – and FDA Director Scott Gottlieb – elude to the data speaking for itself. “Epidemic proportions”. No one has uttered a word of an epidemic of alcohol use or illicit drug use.

By the way, I know you were shocked about that alcohol use. Relax, daily use of alcohol is significantly lower, reported at 1.20%. That’s an extremely dramatic drop in what on the surface looks like a very high and concerning number for “use”.

They want to install vaping detectors in school bathrooms.

Will breathalizers also be available?

The only conclusion is for me, they didn’t ask – or report it – on purpose. If it were truly an epidemic, certainly daily use would be the most intriguing and telling figure for what would be an “epidemic” and the most important question asked.

Illicit Drug use for 30 days is at 24.00%

Proof By Assertion

Jerome Adams, on his personal Twitter account, stated in this tweet, he’s “not against e-cigs as potential harm reduction option for adults”, he asked: “everyone- ESPECIALLY adult ecig and vaping advocates- to help address epidemic ecig use in our young people“.

You want “everyone” “on board” with propaganda, Dr. Adams? Especially advocates? People like ME? Well, you’ll need to step back, answer the questions many have asked within, and I’ll get back to you.

I asked our friend Vlad to do some math. The root of square evil is a percentage of some sort… either way, he’s a smart rodent. I’d have guessed 10%.

I thought it would be higher – in fact, I would guess – without having kids in school – that “daily” would be found to be at least 10-15%.

What we DON’T know:

  • How many users used nicotine? (Thank you EcigN8!)
  • How many users were smokers?
  • Why are daily rates not asked or shown?
  • Why is marijuana included with “any vaping“?
  • How is an adult product in the hands of “youth“?
  • How many of these students questioned were of legal age?
  • What steps are you taking to amend the Synar Amendment?
  • Will you stop non-profits from marketing tobacco and e-cigs to minors?

Why Don’t We Know Daily Use Numbers?

This section was intentionally left blank.

You’re welcome.

Moving on… there are feelings to contend with.

Epidemic Of Feelings

Dr. Adams has said it isn’t about feelings. “Folks… may not like it, they may not think 30-day use is appropriate measure…”

You’re right, I don’t like this “30-day” use smokescreen to exclaim “Medical definitions“. “Crisis“.  “Epidemic“. Feelings.

Wait a minute:

You do.

Surgeon General feelings 2.jpg

Ok, got it, it’s not about feelings. I’ll go with propaganda.

Manipulation Epidemic

Dr. Adams was “Indiana State Health Commissioner  – until becoming Surgeon General and was in charge of that state’s Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Commission”. While he held that position, he owned stock in tobacco companies.

I’ll repeat that:

While he held that position he owned STOCK in TOBACCO companies.

Also covered by Politico here.

Incompetence Epidemic

Fine, incompetent may be harsh.

Dr. Adams is suffering from nothing less than cognitive dissonance.

Added 1/07/19

In fact, “Over 94 percent of teens are not regularly vaping.”

Is 🍒 cherry-picking data a sport for public health?

The latest survey data from the Centers for Disease Control only reveals any e-cigarette use in the last month, but previous data showed that fewer than 6 percent of teens (including 18 year olds, who can legally purchase e-cigarettes) vaped habitually (20-30 days a month).

That shows selective cherry-picking will do.

Unfounded E-Cigarette Panic Puts Public Health at Risk

Added 01/14/2018

Speaking of asking: Helen Redmond has this to say:

“The survey produced large-seeming percentages by asking teens if they’d vaped in the past month, the past year, or ever, but omitted to ask about the most frequent use, which you’d think would be the cause of most concern.”

A Harm Reduction Guide for Parents of Teens Who Vape

Clive breaks it down before the numbers were official:

The missing data may reveal how much of the so-called ‘epidemic’ is basically trivial use.”

Dr. Rodu also breaks it down:

“Reducing youth access to e-cigarettes appears to increase youth smoking rates”

Personally, I consider you all intelligent and capable of thinking for yourselves, and I’ve scribbled about that here:

Vaping In The News covers media stories on smoking, vaping, snus, heat not burn, e-cigarettes, exposing tobacco control, public health, government, regulations, policies and more worldwide.

“The largest threat to Public Health is an informed consumer.”

Managing nicotine ~ THR4Life ~ Self-determining nicotine consumption ~ I bought my dad a Juul  ~ Dr. Gottlieb ~ Poison Control ~ Surgeon General Jerome Adams ~ Voices Of Vapers ~ VapeTithing ~ FDA Comments

Managing nicotine without smoke to save lives now: Evidence for harm minimization

    • Products that do not burn tobacco are substantially less harmful than deadly smoke.
  • E-cigarettes do help smoker’s switch or quit smoking especially if used daily.
  • Youth use of e-cigarettes is experimental and not a gateway to lifetime smoking.

Managing nicotine without smoke to save lives now: Evidence for harm minimization

THR4Life

As a member of THR4Life, I, (and the Board of Directors) are excited to announce THR4Life was selected to receive a non-profit advertising campaign for the Detroit Lakes region from Leighton Broadcasting.

Because of the nomination, the national board will receive:

  • A client discovery session

  • A 13-week, 21 ads per week branding schedule on select Leighton Broadcasting radio stations.

Thank you to all those who voted and nominated THR4life, and thank you to Leighton Broadcasting!

Scott Gottlieb

A.J. is one of the people I follow on Twitter. Government officials are assumed to have a staffer manning their social media accounts. I – along with many others have tweeted at, to and above the “Dr. Gottlieb” account –  thousands of times. This, of all things, got a response from Gottlieb. While we know he now knows there’s a mute button, we’re not sure if he’s utilized it.

Finally a bit of levity from Dr. Gottlieb.

Poison Control

To be clear, the numbers below are *calls* to poison centers, not visits or treatment. Jake Jacobsen (@Jake2001 on Twitter) has been and continues to compile these each month.

“Here are the final numbers for 2018 from the U.S. American Association of Poison Control Centers. (AAPCC) Again, common household products continue to be much more prevalent.” – Jake

To my knowledge, no “epidemic” or crisis has been issued or discussed for laundry pods or hand sanitzer. Huh.

Poison 2018

Surgeon General

The Surgeon General has decided to take matters to his own personal twitter account to discuss e-cigarette use and ‘epidemic’ proportions of said use in youth. This seems to take a bit of heat of Dr. Gottlieb directly (on purpose?) – and of course, there is a disclaimer on the account: “Tweets/RT don’t represent endorsement or my employer.”

I, among others, have decided to take him to task. “Past month” use is not equal to “daily use” and therefore does not constitute any meaning of ‘epidemic’.

Alcohol is 30.20% for “past month” use. Quite high! On the surface, I would call that a huge concern.

The Surgeon General conveniently displays data. No one has uttered a word of an epidemic of alcohol use.

Daily use of alcohol is significantly lower, reported at 1.20%. That’s an extremely dramatic drop in what on the surface looks like a very high and concerning number for “use”.

The only conclusion is for me, they didn’t ask – or report it – on purpose. If it were truly and epidemic, certainly daily use would be the most intriguing and telling figure for what would be an “epidemic” and the most important question asked.

Author note: In or out of context, he’s sharing “national sentiment” and lack of balance.

His job description as Surgeon General is to provide “Americans with the best scientific information available on how to improve their health and reduce the risk of illness and injury.”

If you’re interested, you can also see what Dr. Adams has said in his non-representation of his employer about “feelings” and 30-day-use here.

Surgeon General Feelings

I call bullshit, Dr. Adams. Fraud, corruption and conflict comes to mind. Those are my feelings. I suppose that’s what feelings are for. Imagine my feelings when I found while in your role as Indiana State Health Commissioner – overseeing Indiana’s Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Commission – you owned (or still own?) stock in tobacco companies.

Huh.

FDA Comments

Your government at “work”.

The Food and Drug Administration is requesting comments for the “potential role of drug therapies to support youth e-cigarette cessation”.

Don’t let my editorial comments fool you, but remember, the standard and idiotic blanket statement of nicotine being “more addictive than heroin or cocaine” rings loudest in my ear.

This comment from you they seek, is for children. To have nicotine therapy.

These “therapies” below include “keep trying thirty times and experience 93% failure rates”. The last one has that pesky side effect of and includes suicidal thoughts.

They’ve lost their minds revenue. Need to build that back up.

Persons seeking to attend, but not present at, the public hearing must register by January 15, 2019. Section III provides attendance and registration information.

Electronic or written comments will be accepted after the public hearing until February 1, 2019.

You don’t know nicotine

“Convincing smokers that nicotine is addictive is a multi-billion dollar global lie.”

The “nicotine addiction” lie is about 30 years old.

I’m      barely      able      to      contain      myself.

#YouDontKnowNicotine

Influence

I’m constantly and actively looking, like most consumers, for anything detrimental (new risks, more risks, less risks) that makes sense to my amateur and laymen’s eye.

I’ll let this speak for itself:

“No significant changes were observed when comparing the concentrations of exhaled breath in vaping and no vaping days. Even the exhaled breath nicotine concentrations in both conditions were similar. As expected, toluene, xylenes, benzene, ethylbenzene, and naphthalene did not show increases in the vaping days since combustion was not involved.”

Influence of electronic cigarette vaping on the composition of indoor organic pollutants, particles, and exhaled breath of bystanders

Stanton Glantz Says Vapers Should Smoke Cigarettes, Instead

Speaking of Glantz:

Across my eye came an intriguing title. I was excited. At the top it has Glantz’s name on it, and – at the time of this being published, it is blank. So much for evidence.

E-cigarettes: Stick to the Evidence.

Dr. Siegel takes the truth to task.

“By focusing on the nicotine content, rather than the formulation, the “truth” campaign and CDC are obscuring the most important information that people need to understand.”

How did you prepare for the day you planned to quit smoking?

I am a huge fan of Chris Price. He speaks of the coffee-shaped hole…

How did you prepare for the day you planned to quit smoking?

The price of appeasing PHE’s anti-smoking propaganda

As I plod along into my fifth year of this blog – It is primarily about vaping. In the process, I see Glantz, the anti-smoking rhetoric, the propaganda – and I’ve found it best to question everything, as I explain partially in this blog. As C. Frank Davis does in his.

Vaping In The News covers media stories on smoking, vaping, snus, heat not burn, e-cigarettes, exposing tobacco control, public health, government, regulations, policies and more worldwide.

The “Public Health” Industrial-Complex Behind the Anti-Vaping Push
Lobbying, restrictions, coordination, corruption, hysteria…  sounds like a coup to me.
“The anti-vaping push from public health organizations is coordinated, well-funded, and tied to powerful entities in government and corporate America. According to federal data, however, there is extremely limited evidence of any ‘epidemic’.”

Consumer Engagement for GFN2019

From our friend, Jessica Harding:

“The theme for GFN2019 will be  “It’s time to talk about nicotine” and it is vital that the people who use safer nicotine products are at the heart of that conversation.

The GFN organisers are keen to give an even higher profile to consumers and consumer organisations than in previous years and I have been asked to help with that.”

Consumer Engagement for GFN2019

Stevens Point leaders update e-cig ordinance

The article states city leaders voted across the board to “make it more difficult to get e-cigarettes in the hands of teens.

Now – it’s a fifty-dollar fine and possibly a court appearance if a minor is caught with one. Among other anomalies in the article (my bold/underlining for emphasis):

“Officers in Stevens Point previously had to prove if the cigarette had nicotine in it but it wasn’t possible to test in the field.”

Unsurprisingly, it doesn’t mention fines or consequences for cigarettes or the Synar Amendment.

TCAPS Will Install Vape Detectors in Middle, High Schools

Read this sentence, a quote from the video:

“Our goal here is to do more of a deterrent…not necessarily catch students…but deter students”

Now – if you must read it again…

I for one can’t imagine any kid figuring out how to get around this… and for the record, were there or will there also be “smoke” detectors?

Altria board approves $13 billion investment in e-cigarette company Juul

Imagine all the hard work and ‘investment’ put forth by Tobacco Free Kids to obtain this kind of coverage?

We Need to Reduce the Harms of Draconian Tobacco Policies

Nothing says “tell people what to do” more than telling people what to do and how not to do it – and getting paid to do so from those very people.

See, discrimination, embarrasment, fines, taxes, custody battles, imprisonment, executions… well, any means necessary to get people to do what you want them to do are clearly the best…

Wait a minute…

Via the well respected Marewa Glover, down the rabbit hole you go.

We Need to Reduce the Harms of Draconian Tobacco Policies

Brad Rodu… you can’t ask for better.

Vaping In The News – December 8th, 2018

news14

Vaping In The News covers media stories on smoking, vaping, snus, heat not burn, e-cigarettes, exposing tobacco control, public health, government, regulations, policies and more worldwide.

“The largest threat to Public Health is an informed consumer.”

From surveys to videos, this week has been a long and interesting for e-cigarettes and other related news. I appreciate you and your attention to what I deem important and hope you share what you see as important in your circles.

EcigIntelligence Annual U.S. Consumer Survey 2018

It’s survey time for U.S. consumers. Challenges in the United States are far from over. Your voice counts. As a consumer, your data is both necessary and imperative.

Billions in anti-tobacco funds spent elsewhere

I’m still speechless concerning this pyramid / ponzi scheme placed upon smokers, then less smokers, while the public is conned into believing the tobacco companies pay tobacco control to do almost usless “work”.

20 years after settlement, billions in anti-tobacco funds spent elsewhere

Related: “Where We Stand” (see contrived)

(Bold, color, italics are my emphasis)

At 1:16:41 — “e-cigarettes and the like – thus far no pure vape product has been uh.. none of the parties have asserted they are in the MSA – the definition of a tobacco product (MSA) is different than a tobacco product under the FDA act…”

  • The Master Settlement Agreement is a contract
  • The Master Settlement Agreement does not expire.
  • Lock up funding by ballot measure/constitutional amendment if possible

I’m NOT going to stop asking this question: Can ‘nicotine’ (defined) as “tobacco” become a legal challenge?

If you’re interested, the full video “Where We Stand 20 Years After the Tobacco Master Settlement Agreement: Legacy and Loose Ends” is here.

Retired FDA research monkeys find new home and music in Florida

“The monkeys were once involved in a US Food and Drug Administration study intended to investigate the role of various levels of nicotine in the onset of addiction in teens and young adults.”

Good to see FDA researchers are given homes and music… wait a minute..

Dual use… trial and error…

Interesting to note no one talks about 93% failure rates – um… relapses with the patch, gum… I’ll stop babbling… that’s not why you’re here.
